Encouraging signs from the two new boys. Would like to see a couple more new faces in next week. I wonder if Abe has to make appearances just appease the owners ? If so then it means we are playing with ten men each game.

Abe can't be as useless as people are making out. Granted he is obviously poor at the moment but he played in a Japanese team at the world cup that was sublime on occasions. The language barrier is clearly a problem at the moment and he probably completely out of his comfort zone. The guy may need until next season until we see his real potential. I wonder if he is continuing to learn the english language.

Am I the only one who felt Weale could've done better with their goal? Still glad he is back though, especially that save he made from Kilbane late on.

We are crying out for a playmaker more than anything in my opinion. Criticise the strikers all you want, but how many chances were created for them yesterday? Fryatt and Waghorn can score plenty in this league if they are given decent service imo.

Yesterday also showed how much we missed Dyer.

Agree with every point

DD Weale was most definitely at fault for their goal. Not. For the first time I would add. He did however save a certain winning goal. Swings and roundabouts.

Plus their 'keeper really should have done better for King's.

I'd agree as well. In addition to the significant problem we had already, I wonder if the Thailand trip also didn't help.

Thought both of the goals could have been handled better by the 'keepers. I'm not Weale's biggest fan but he's miles better that Ikeme. Abe looked poor again, I'm willing to give him some benefit of the doubt over language issues but I do wonder whether the owners haven't insisted he plays a part in every game as this isn't the first time he's been put on as a sub for no particular reason. Glad that Pearson got a good responce, especially getting clapped off the pitch at the end.

Maybe the problem is that we didn't do any fitness training at all under Sousa? Or if so, only a small amount.

I think you are right and this is one of the biggest problems. It is also difficult to solve. The whole point of a pre-season is that you can work without the pressure of league games coming up. If you have not put in the fitness work it is difficult to make it up during the season.

Kennedy has already mentioned that training under Eriksson 'has increased 10 fold and it needed to'. This really emphasises the fact that Sousa did not get the team into shape. How the hell Swansea did so well last season, god only knows.

A 36 year old Pires? no thanks.
Would you say no to Ryan Giggs? Both are practically the same age. I am certainly not the advocate of bringing loads of oldies in but Pires has undoubted quality. He would be far far technically superior than anything that we have in our midfield. For me we are really lacking a midfielder that can unlock defences with a pass or a piece of creative brilliance. Pires may just be the type of player thay could do this (for one season!).

Giggs is a completely different case to Pires. Just because they are the same age, doesn't mean they are still doing the same in terms of performance. Otherwise why would one still be at Man Utd, and the other a free agent!?!

I'm am not saying that we would get the same standard of performance from Pires as we would from Giggs. I believe we could get the standard of performance that would still make a real difference in the championship.

I was reading the Davie Gibson article in the merc, when he said to play in midfield you need a big engine these days.

I feel he is right, Edgar Davids is not pulling up any trees for Palace...and Pires would more than likely be the same.
