I rated the team that went up under Brian Little higher than this.
On the other hand I rate this team higher than I rated the MON team at the time.
Since the MON team did far better in the Prem than the Brian Little side it seems to me that what matters is to get into the Prem and then buy and loan w*s*ly.
The Micky Adams side that got promoted was ageing and there was not enough money to bring in good players.

With NP we have a manager who has not paid a transfer fee for a poor player. I don't know Milan's financial situation but would guess that while money will be limited it will be far more than Micky Adams had. Milan will expect Nigel to spend money w*s*ly and not waste it like Martin Allen.

Obviously this season the odds are that we will reach a playoff place and then the odds are against any particular one of the four. However, I believe that as long as we have Nigel promotion is not a matter of "if" but a matter of which season.

Agreed. Which is why I'm optimistic if we go we'll stay there. IMO Pearson is along the same mould as someone like Tony Pulis who knows a good bargain when he sees one. Yes, he's made a couple of dung transfers (Neilson, Adjaravic, McGivern) but all of those cost us nothing. Yet Hobbs, Weale, Morrison, Berner, all of whom have been outstanding probably cost us about £750k between them. Yet if I were offered £10mil to sell those 4 I would not accept it, they've all been so important to us.

I agree with you, that it's about spending wisely once we get there. Obviously if we go up, a lot of the players playing week in week out now are not good enough make the step up to the Prem, I totally agree on that, but I trust in Nige to bring better players in, with the bigger transfer kitty/pull of players getting to play in the Prem.

Disappointing to concede late like that. Whenever Berner is out we are going to concede goals unfortunately. I've not been very critical of Mcgivern, but I thought his decision-making and positional sense were pretty poor today, he should have done better on the first cov goal.

Andy King continues to impress every time I see him, and I thought Wellens played well today. Nobody was outright bad, I just think Mcgivern is a big drop off from Berner.

I am, like profondo, optimistic and think we are one of the better sides in this league, and statistically we are, in fact, the 4th best. As long as Pearson is around we will be competitive irrelevant of the league we are in.

I don't get to see City week in week out like many of you, but I was impressed today with the workrate, the central defensive pair, and some of our passing in the first half was excellent.

We do seem to be sitting on leads a lot these days, and on the whole we have been successful, but today we got caught out. That said, the second goal should have been flagged offside. While Sears didn't touch the ball, when a player is running across the six yard box, he is affecting play. Should have been a flag.

Should have killed them off and greatly pissed off that we didn't we now need to win against Reading in my opinion else teams will start catching us up, very pissed off with today.

Struggling to understand why we can't finish it off. It's been the same since Harlow Town. The opportunity of promotion is superb, as long as it doesn't involve commitments that place the club in jeopardy. I'm of the opinion it is better to be battered & financially secure in 2011-12 than stretch ourselves.

None did this weekend. :icon_roll

However, we are in for a rather stick patch of games in the coming weeks but saying that rising to the occasion has never been a problem for this current City side, it's when we've half-won a game or playing lower positioned opponents.

Thanks for reminding me of that horrid night in Harlow!

Fully agree 100% with going up and coming down, but richer in the process.

because they're not good enough to make a difference?

They probably are, but they wouldn't have made any difference today if they, like the rest of the team, had been instructed to spend the whole of the second half defending your own eighteen yard line, and hoofing aimless balls up the pitch at every given opportunity

Blimey I agree with you...............:038::038::038:

The charlie should wear off soon!

It was a very disappointing game. A great first half spoilt by a woeful second half. I thought that Pearson should have taken Waghorn off much earlier than he did and replaced him with Dani. The substitution he made added an even more immobile forward and midfielder to virtually static team. Too little hold up play and support upfront. Waghorn played well and ran himself into the ground.

According to the OS, this match was an "East Midlands derby". How long have c*v been in the East Midlands?

Fletcher (the Man U player) was talking about their big derby game today too. Funny, I thought Man C were playing Fulham.

I'm pretty sure Liverpool vs ManUtd is the big derby game for both sides these days. I'm not sure either give a shit about ManCity or Everton anymore tbh.
