So have we ruined another great little prospect or is Knocky's demise from a great creative flair player with a great eye for goal to a talentless fool who isn't even allowed to take a corner any more his own (strange) doing?

It depends whether you blindly believe he ever was a player with great creative flair with a great eye for goal, of if you accept that is just fan hype and he's always been a good prospect but with limitations that need to be worked on. Whatever suits your argument I suppose.

Actually, you can't argue with his stats, he doesn't have a great eye for goal.

Well I believe the first. He scored some absolute beauties last year and was at the centre of a lot of our positive play.

There is a difference between a great goalscorer and a scorer of great goals.

That's my point, he has a lot to learn. I was refuting the argument that we have somehow ruined the next Pires, not saying he was shit. Some people really are all or nothing

I distincly remember watching him in all of his first 5 or so games for us and he was a totally different player to what he is today, I am not using extremes but if anyone thinks he has gone forward or stayed the same as a player since he joined us then they must be watching a different player.

He was genuinely exciting to watch and actually did right more often than wrong in those early stages, now it seems the other way around.

He's not done it consistently yet though. He's hardly gone backwards if 5 games is all you are basing it on. I know this is your favourite troll... sorry argument against the management but it really is ridiculous the amount of hyping that goes on regarding Knockaert and it does him no favours. The amount of times people tell me he is the type of player who will change games for you yet can't name the last time he did is ridiculous. He's a young kid learning the game, same as Marshall. They are adapting to higher levels than they are used to and will have ups and downs, good patches and bad. It doesn't mean they are now shit or have gone backwards any more than a few good performances mean they are great or making swaps forward. But if it makes you happy, you keep banging the same tired drum.

Could be this, or it could be that after his first 5 games the opposition have realised he is decent and are paying a lot more attention to marking / closing down. He just needs to learn how to make more space for himself.

I remember Birmingham away last season when he seemed to be given a free role and was everywhere and completely ran the show, everything went through him and some it his defence splitting passes and skill were unreal.

Knockaert is undoubtably young and inconsistent but at his best I don't think I've ever seen a Leicester player who could just run a game and make it look as easy as he did at his best last season.

well said.. he's shite he's great, it's a false dichotomy. He's a decent prospect still young and finding his feet in a new system.

Erm, not sure how you come to the conclusion that I am against the management, I am firmly in the dont change the manager camp, or is it that anyone who dares to puestion anything he does wants him gone?

Regarding knocky I think he has gone backwards, and im glad you mentioned Marshall, never before have I seen a lad like him go from tantalising to out of the plan altogether so fast.

The only reason hes so popular is because of the song.
If we didn't have a good song for him he would be booed a lot more.......... :icon_bigg

The whole team has gone backwards performance wise. We were free flowing an playing nice stuff even without him in the team last year. When we play like that and support our forward players in numbers he comes into his own due to his skill.

But when we aren't playing like that, anyone playing up the pitch is going to look like an utter donkey as they aren't getting the support. And without that Knockaert can't do anything as he doesn't have the pace, he needs people around him.

i think the opposition are obviously more aware of knockaert than they were at the start of last season. he's clearly extremely gifted (his performance vs huddersfield away was absolutely stunning, not just his goals but his whole game, was unplayable), but he's immature and makes bad decisions on the ball, which is to be expected.

his best position almost definitely isn't right midfield; he'd be better as an out and out 'inverted' winger, or in a free role in the middle. we don't play with either atm, and whether we should or not is a matter of debate, but he won't excel unless played in his best positions, like most players.

he is worth persevering with, will make mistakes, will continue to develop, but can't be trusted to start every game as he lacks discipline. he's 19, still really exciting, but inconsistent. what do you expect from him really? if he was consistent, we probably wouldn't be able to keep hold of him

All of this is correct and is why Pearson isn't chucking him in every game and is telling him when he can and can't take corners and free kicks. It's part of his development. Learning not to take corners when you aren't particularly good at them and that you can't just snatch the ball for penalties are pretty good lessons to learn, especially when your last snatch lost the club a potential 60million.
