I thought cos it was next to Coalville it was full of inbreds?:icon_eek:

That most definitely is a unsubstantiated rumour.

Thick, vile, scrounging, pathetic, alcoholic, wife beating, tracksuit wearing, all day in the bookies spending losers yes, but inbreds no.

I went on the Dartmouth to Totnes river cruise last summer, when the skipper pointed out 3 or 4 very secluded houses that had no proper access road to them. Although i cant recall the name, he claimed it was officially the smallest hamlet in the country.

Anybody know which is the biggest and the smallest?

In terms of physical size, population, qty of homes, qty of local amenities etc?

Obviously there could be a different answer to each one, just something I'm curious about.

Bet you are exciting at Parties..

Surprised me when I read that, it seemed to be just an average sized village when I was last there. Must have been about 25 years ago though, I guess it's grown a lot since then!

Havent we all Jeff :icon_wink

Sorry Lako .........full of wankers i heard :icon_bigg

Rubbish, just rubbish, ive been so non aggresive on here over the last few months that i cant even call someone a wanker properly anymore.

I am now, tamed.

At what point does a village become a town?

Cos I think Earl Shilton is now classed as a town.

a town needs a Town council & Town Hall i think, so that counts Shilts out

and i think a hamlet becomes a village when it get a church, i.e. it falls under the parish of a village

i think Shilton is one of the largest villages in england

as for smallest, god there must be loads

What amenities has Desford got?

I know they have the college, but there's not a great deal else there is there?

As well as the college, they've got some kind of animal centre thing, an Alliance and Leicester, Chemist, several shops and pubs, Library, Petrol Station etc.

Not forgetting home to Caterpillar.

So it's just like a typical medium sized village then.

Well it's a big village, not a small town.

Again, its a fairly ambiguous question seeing as no one can define a village. Does Glenfield class as a village?

Larger than a hamlet, smaller than a town.
A hamlet is a settlement without a church, a town is a settlement with a charter for a market or a settlement with a town council.
