The majority of immigrants do actually stay in the first country they get to, something like 70% of them. Didn't someone already link to a document that spelt it out? And a vid? Not a lot anyone here can do if people keep asking the same question (thinking it a knockout punch) without informing themselves.

As pop eloquently pointed out (not the **** off **** bit), refugees don't have to seek asylum in the first country they get to. It's a international agreement to share the load, to take some strain off the border countries (how many million - yes, million - refugees has Turkey taken in from Syria?) Sure, some in the UK would love the '1st country you get to' rule because that'd mean there is virtually no likelihood of having to deal with anyone.

Those that cross countries to get to the UK do so because they speak English (making integration easier), or have contacts, friends or family in the UK already. It makes total sense to me - crossing the channel in a dinghy aside, and they're kinda forced into that by the UK's asylum rules. Those rules though, they seem almost 'catch 22' to me. The UK wants to call asylum seekers 'illegal' when it's just not the case.

They've come from filthy, ramshackle places where they suffer abuse because of their race or life choices and where they are only a few minutes away from getting gunned down.

Guess it makes sense to stick them in Notts.
