Usually, I'm as cynical as anyone. Like many of you, I've seen many new managers and almost as many false dawns. Only Jock Wallace (my first manager as a viewing fan), Brian Little and Martin O'Neill have delivered anything worth getting excited about. Of these, only MON actually made us a team to be truly proud of.

Martin Allen have grafted hard to get this opportunity. His record so far in management of taking underperforming teams used to losing and turning them into teams that win more and compete for everything deserves our initial respect. His almost childlike approach and honesty impresses me. He is a much needed breath of fresh air after 7 years of mind numbing drivel. One thing he has demonstrated very clearly is that HE doesn't believe that he's the finished article as a manager. He wants to learn and improve everyday. Nowadays, far too few people are like this. Credit to him that he is.

He may well become another disappointment. He may be punching above his weight. He may be tactically naive and get found out. But until he proves this over time, nobody should dismiss or belittle him. If we've really got so bad that we are not prepared to give a man a chance who has earned it, then we all might as well give up now.

:icon_roll That's me done an' all, it's a ****ing joke in here. Too many idiots that think LCFC is the real world.

It is difficult to credit that some people are so stupid not to realise that the MA column is simply written to give them the words that they so want to hear.

Neither this nor anything else indicates that MA will be a good, bad or indifferent manager. That will be solely determined by how good is his judgement on players and how well he can motivate them which will be shown in somerthing called 'results' of football matches.

The only thing MA's words show is that he is fan sensitive - by which he knows that a good proportion of fans are credulous....and that it is good tactics to get them on his side.

Nothing at all wrong with that, but it is irrelevant to how things will turn out.

Yes - but you are intelligent enough to realise that people are starting to kill each other on this forum just because there is no actual football.

I think Martin Allen's columns are absurd - and as you say pander to the thickos - but to be fair the majority of football supporters are not the brightest so his 'marketing' tactics are not unreasonable.

At the end of the day, Milan - who is no one's fool - has brought in on the cheap a lot of new players and that is more than the previous regime would have done.

We should all want Martin Allen to suceed and given that he has a few weeks to knit together this motley crewe then he will have his work cut out. Whatever drivel he speaks if we are winning will not matter an iota; if on the otherhand we are losing the silly stuff he pours out will be thrown back in his face.

Let reality begin on Aug 11.

I'm not criticising him - both he and Milan are doing a great PR job for the gumbies of this world, as this forum demonstrates perfectly

It is utter drivel, and an embarrassment IMO - dumbing down football to its lowest common denominator.
But credit where credit's due - he knows his audience well, and they love him for it. Good on him

If he manages the team as well as he spouts complete and utter shite, we are on our way up. Whether he can or not is another debate altogether, and we will only be able to judge that when the season starts

Precisely.

And I think his contributions are an embarrassment too and I personally doubt that a manager with any real self-belief and belief in his craft would turn out such crap.

The problem for him is that unless results match his rhetoric then he is going to look a complete idiot.

I just hope for all our sakes that his style proves to be just an idiosyncracy - and in proactical terms he turns out to be ok. I realise that he feels the need to justify his 'mad dog' label....but I would prefer slightly more dignity although like you understand that the child like in all age groups will lap it up.

i think it's fab that he's playing these mind games with them.. will certainly have them on their toes. And full marks to him for sharing it with us instead of keeping it all behind closed doors..

Some people scream for info.. then when they get it.. they moan again :icon_eek:

Talking Balls ;)

I am finding MA a bit of an embarrassment too. I cannot believe all this shit he posts on the OS, who is he trying to kid? I believe now most LCFC fans are very easily pleased, or conned. Why wank yourselves daft over someone who has not done anything yet to deserve this. I am waiting to see results on the football field, not what he gives out on the training field. Fecking mars bars FFS....:icon_roll
We have been linked with a lot of players over the past weeks, some sure fire bets to sign, but things go quiet and the feckers sign somewhere else. I find this a bit worrying. I would much rather hear why we have not got certain players than hearing about a fecking world cup with a BBQ set 1st prize. "Todorov was a cnut, thats why we didnt sign him, we told him to feck off" rather than hear Fryatt is gobbing down another choccy bar

I can't believe naviety - these 'PR shunts' were bound to happen. MM attracts press and Allen fits the bill perfectly - first of all he seems happy to be a puppet and then he's more than media-savvy.

I wouldn't allow it to affect you guys too much. IMO at least this form of communication to the fans is better than the slogan shite 'We're in it together' which was not only alienating but taking the piss.

I think we all being cynical after being conned into too many false dawns and can't blame anybody for doing that. We'll have to wait and see if this 'act' succeeds in bringing certain players down to earth and with a huge kick up the arse.

Deep down I believe MA is out of his depth and he is just throwing loads of whitewash everywhere, and papering over the cracks. I hope I am wrong, I want to be wrong ........ But I never am

I agree with lots of that. Clearly Milan is in this business for the power of ownership and control and I guess that a number of potential applicants would have been put off by the "puppet" role requirement.

I also agree we should leave this one now - Allen is certainly setting himself up and whatever happens when reality starts is going to be a lot of fun...winning or losing.
