Deep down I believe MA is out of his depth and he is just throwing loads of whitewash everywhere, and papering over the cracks. I hope I am wrong, I want to be wrong ........ But I never am

I think that feeling is within everyone - the last 3 managerial appointments have cheapo appointments when maybe better options have been available. I think MM's thinking was to appoint a 'get-goer' in Allen who would give the appropriate players a rocket and then hopefully bring in players of a quality at the wages which he is willing to play.

It does seem that the attraction of money alone has not worked in our favour and now we are lumped with potentially good players and not proven quality. We'll see how good of a manager Allen is because he will have to do more than motivate our current squad. I am very tentiative towards this season - that's why I am looking forward to the Quorn game next week. Provided the new signings are there, we'll see how potentially good these players.

As Redditch as said, we'll see if this issue comes back on us in the coming months. If we're playing rank come October and Allen releases one of these statements, the 'non-rights and thickos' will soon work out his 'act'

Credit where it's due, Hazz's grasp of English has come on in leaps & bounds, great work lad. :icon_wink

I must admit the recent pedantism towards my English has made me take more time when posting and iron out mistakes. I suppose I'll need it starting a course at a university in October.
:038: :038: :038:

(you could do with a comma between "it" and "starting" though )

I just enjoy reading about the training sessions like this, and perhaps I am a gullible muppet as many of you say, but Martin Allen is doing his best to change things at my club for which I give him praise.

It as all be in intentioned to improve you're ability to make you're self understood.
Their our people what make no effort to post coherently and they're posts our just rambling strings of letters what nobody understands.
But your obviously making an effort recently, what is good to see.

...and its pedantry, not pedantism!

Something that no-one has considered. MA has always acted like this before in his previous managerial roles so why should he change his style for our benefit? It has served him well before. I feel a little uneasy with his style but if he is succesful as our manager he will be able to do and say what he likes and we'll love it (ala Mourinho) If he fails on the football front, we will crucify him (and all of the told you so's will have their chance to say I told you so) !! In the meantime it has got to be better than "keep the faith" or "we're all in it together" crap. But as in all things in football he will be as good as his last game. The jury is out so I suggest that we all enjoy the honeymoon period whilst we can and hope he can deliver what he say's he can. Here's hoping!!

It is difficult to credit that some people are so stupid not to realise that the MA column is simply written to give them the words that they so want to hear.

I wouldn't disagree except, given the tone of the notes, that if true, it suggests a jaw-dropping level of cynicism as to how stupid fans are. Reading them as the comments of a happy simpleton is maybe nicer.

Usually, I'm as cynical as anyone. Like many of you, I've seen many new managers and almost as many false dawns. Only Jock Wallace (my first manager as a viewing fan), Brian Little and Martin O'Neill have delivered anything worth getting excited about. Of these, only MON actually made us a team to be truly proud of.

Martin Allen have grafted hard to get this opportunity. His record so far in management of taking underperforming teams used to losing and turning them into teams that win more and compete for everything deserves our initial respect. His almost childlike approach and honesty impresses me. He is a much needed breath of fresh air after 7 years of mind numbing drivel. One thing he has demonstrated very clearly is that HE doesn't believe that he's the finished article as a manager. He wants to learn and improve everyday. Nowadays, far too few people are like this. Credit to him that he is.

He may well become another disappointment. He may be punching above his weight. He may be tactically naive and get found out. But until he proves this over time, nobody should dismiss or belittle him. If we've really got so bad that we are not prepared to give a man a chance who has earned it, then we all might as well give up now.

Best post I have ever read on here. FACT!

You're not a gullible muppet Alex. Nobody who wants MA to succeed is. It's very sad to see a number of people writing snide obituaries before someone has barely drawn their first breath. Read some of your posts in this thread - it's arrogant bollocks. Anything you can find to criticise is seized upon with venom.

Since when were 99% of football managers bright? We've had plenty of managers who talk as though they are something they aren't. Pleat and Taylor being classic examples. Talked like football connoiseurs and managed like cnuts. I couldn't give a flying feck whether MA has an IQ of 50 or 500. He has to get into generally thick young men's heads and hearts. Signs are that he will. If he doesn't, I'm sure you'll be delighted.

Nicely put, this place and various patrons are just 100% negative and always will be no matter what happens. they moan when we have a twat like kelly giving us comments like 'we are where we are' and then they moan when we have a straight talking manager like MA who lets the important people (fans) know what is happening and helps to bridge the connection between fans and club that has been lost for many years.

cynicysm is one thing but plain old pessimism is another, i truely hope that MA turns out to be the best manager we have hed in the last 5 years just to spit it back in all the faces of those who have slagged him off without need. And undoubtadly those who have such pathetic views on ANYTHING this club does will say they always wanted to be proved wrong, that however is bollox, you make a hobby out of negativity, it truely is beyond the odd opinion.

Im fed up of being called 'thick' 'not right' 'simpleton' etc simply because i can see the possitive change in the way our manager acts and displays himself to the fans, i have moaned like any other about taylor, levein, kelly and others and for once i feel like i have a manager in charge of my club who actually gives a ****. That most certainly does not make me guilty of a lack of common sense or intelligence.

But **** everyone else, im happy with MA and his style and approach, and at least i can say i backed him whole heartedly from the beggining of his charge regardless of the outcome, and i know that if MA doesnt succeed in his aims it wont be for lack of effort or wanting.

good night

I think that it is refreshingly honest that MA will put himself in the firing line by saying he has a lot to learn. What is important isn't that he will make mistakes, because he will just like the rest of us do, but that he learns from them and we become a better team because of it. I only started slagging Kelly off when it was obvious he had no Plan B, eg always like for like subs etc.

I also like the Dear Diary from Belvior Drive approach. It is a long time since anyone at the club actually made communication with the fans an important priority. If you do not like the style, please do not mock the effort.

Extremely well put and totally agree with all your comments. :038::038::038:

Finally we have some one in charge who is prepared to try something different and this just seems an excuse for some people to get the knives out even before a game has been played ffs. If the previous three incumbents had been wildly or even moderately successful I could perhaps understand it. Martin Allen was not my first choice, or even third, but I respect that he's doing things his way, right or wrong that's a brave thing to do.

OK his grammar needs some work but football is a simple game, (generally) played by simple people. If someone is looking at to motivate/communicate with the 'workforce' in a way that they can actually understand and, God forbid enjoy, that's surely got to be for the good? The only other motivational methodology employed in football these days usually involves a chequebook.

A year from now we will all be a lot wiser about MA's qualifications to be a Championship manager, he may not be the answer but after the long cold grey days of Adams, Levein and Kelly I'm enjoying having some colour brought back into the club.

It's difficult to believe that so many people on this forum feel the need to be so endlessly negative and deeply cynical, particularly regarding MA's column. I could understand it if the season were under way and things weren't going well, but a month before it even begins! :frown:

I would certainly not be happy if one of my team put out communication to any of our clients like that.

I think what he does is different to what we have had in the recent past (and that has to be a good thing) and is honest and refreshing (if lacking in quality and maturity). I like that about him.

MON did not have a great record before he came here and you never know MA may well deliver (and may also feck up spectacularly).

I am prepared to give him 15 games and see how he gets on before I make any judgements, it is only results on the pitch that matters.

The quality of his comments to the fans does not provide any indications as to how well we will do this season.

I have only just read his Friday column and looked back at some of the poster comments.

I am astonished at some of the comments that suggest that this is all crap and embarrassing.
Are some people on here embarrassed because MA simply tells as it is? How sophisticated a game do they think football is?
Are some people on here embarrassed because our players, earning 10 times or more what most of us earn can be 'bribed' with a Mars bar to perform?
And what is the point of all this Sports Science crap if he just giving out sweeties?
I have used similar techniques with groups and what this shows is how well the group has responded to him in that he only needs trinkets, not to motivate them, just to provide the focus for a particular activity.
People should not be embarrassed, they should be proud that he has had a significant postive effect on them in just a few days!
If you are mentally putting yourself in his postion and you are thinking that the players would suggest to you where you could shove the Mars bar and BBQ utensils, then you would not have earned their trust and respect!
He is not just building their respect for him but also for each other. Obviously there will be 'technical' football stuff as well and I am sure we will hear about that as well, subject to the limitation that he is not going to give away any tactical secrets to opposing teams!

superb, the team building effect was one of the things that struck me. we have a squad of new players and little things like this really do help to forge a team mentality.
