Chilwell was struggling from very early on. Why he wasn’t screaming out for help, I don’t know.
BR should have recognised this very early in the game.
Lessons hopefully will be learned

I hope Maddison was under orders not to track back to support Chilwell because, if he wasn't, his performance needs calling out.

It was his position that they kept exploiting. At least Chilwell was trying, Maddison was just completely absent.

If the tactic was based on us regaining possession and breaking, then it maybe made sense to have so many players standing watching whilst the defence and Ndidi did everything.

Should have brought Choudhury on.

Outclassed today, we lacked the energy to press with any real conviction, which is what our success this season has been built on. The squad has worked very hard to get where they are at this stage of the season, and some players are clearly in need of a rest.

The full backs in particular needed more support today, they were both leggy, and continuously overloaded. Against Liverpool I would consider playing Fuchs and Justin with Albrighton and Ricardo in front of them. We are probably at 70% at the moment and need to adapt or rotate.

The good run over. What has happened

Perspective: we lost to Man City and we're still second.

Man City raised their game big time to play us. They were the better team, and have more depth.

But we are still 2nd.

Definitely credit needs to go to Man City who were class and I was very impressed with their pressing game today. But we also played a part in making them look good. Thankfully Kasper prevented it from becoming an embarrassment.
Agree - they had chances to to make it 5 or more. As I said to the missus before the game Mahrez will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing Chilwell as he was bound to score. We might have added a second, but we were clearly outclassed from the very start. Still, good to see Vardy pushing up his tally.

Their first goal highlights why Chilwell was so narrow.

He's marking KDB as no ****er else is. Plus it's very clear that the message from the manager was to remain narrow, tight and close to each other.

If Chilwell had been out marking Mahrez closely there would be a gap wider than the British Channel between him and Caglar, which is more dangerous than leaving space out wide.

Unfortunately against quality like that its punishment either way. If we'd had that gap between Chilwell and Caglar it would have been double figures.

Unusually our back 4 seemed very nervous and were clearly rattled by their hard pressing. The ball rarely got from any of our defenders to our midfield so we created very little.

We are a young team. This sort of performance sadly comes with the territory sometimes. We will need to be much better to have any chance against Liverpool.
