It is a complete coincidence that the day we lose Drinkwater until mid December, Mendy appears on the training ground with no sign of his 'injury'.

Oh for pity's sake.

I recall it being widely reported of Allan Evans at Aston Villa sometime in the mid 80s, and have heard of other similar claims.

Tbf though, I broke my back a few years ago and was sent home from the A&E with some dichlorofenac and a flea in my ear before they sent a grovelling letter a couple of weeks later once the consultant saw my x ray. So what hope does a physio on a field have?

My brother broke his tibia playing, didn't know it until his fibula gave way under the strain the following week.

There must be something really bad going on in Matty James world.

When I was about 14 playing football in the school playground I fractured my leg and not realise. It hurt at the time but somehow I put it together and it mended itself!
I only found out after I went to the doctors about 10 days later and he sent me to have an x ray and there it was, a fracture as clear as anything.

Do you "know something", or are you a conspiracy theorist, BN? I only ask as I don't have you down as a conspiracy theorist.

As you know, I've called you out on things in the past, but I've also supported you on things, so I'm not trying to get on your back unnecessarily, I'm just intrigued.

I explained my rationale about Mendy in another thread about him. It really comes down to whether you accept that it is quite common for clubs to deceive fans and media with the real reasons why players are absent. Many, many players and managers have admitted to this. Ranieri admitted to doing it last season.

I think I have a problem with this. Were a player to have had personal issues requiring him to be absent for a few weeks, I don't see that as unreasonable at all. However, it appears to be unacceptable to say so and they have to invent a physical reason and then a manager will vaguely describe the players progress (or lack of it) and potential return date.

If the player wanted his manager and club to create an injury to allow him to deal with things in peace, I'd totally accept this. I just think football generally would benefit from being more grown up about it.

As we've seen with the recent abuse stories, footballers are human beings that can be affected by life just like any of us. I just think that it would benefit the advancement of compassion and understanding if they admitted as much.

What's all this got to do with Mendy you ask? Maybe something. maybe nothing. And that's my point.

Fair enough. Thanks for answering.

On the other hand he might just have been suffering from an injury.

You might have a better memory than me but I don't recall this happening to Richie Norman. He didn't miss many matches in the eight years he played for City; he was an ever-present for almost four years and never missed more than four games in a row so he would never have time to have recovered from a broken leg. I do recall that Len Chalmers played on in the 1961 Cup Final with a serious leg injury but struggle to think of such an occasion with Norman.

I'm almost sure it was Ritchie Norman. It certainly wasn't Len 'Chopper' Chalmers- I was there to see the Chalmers Cup Final injury - he played on as a sort of left winger having been badly fouled by Les Allen. Days before substitutes of course.

I may do a bit of research on my Norman claim.

Probably. The club may have been a bit careless in their understatement of the injury.

And possibly it will take him a couple of weeks to get match fit.

Around a Christmas return always looked decent bet to me.

It would be good to see Matty James on the sub's bench in the present situation.

The problem with Matty is it takes him a few games to get going we will just have to pucker up and take it for the next 3 games
