Thanks, that's actually really interesting. I personally had this idea that if Southgate hadn't been sacked last season then maybe you'd have at least finished in the play-off zone.
With Strachan, once he started signing loads of Celtic and Rangers players I had a horrible feeling it wasn't going to work. I remember in the summer before this season there was so much hype about Middlesbrough signing Kris Boyd, it seemed almost inevitable he wasn't going to live up to it.
I was actually aware of him being the all time SPL top scorer. It just sums up what the SPL is like that he can come into the Championship on the back of that, and then be such a dissappointment. Someone like Matt Fryatt could probably easily be the all time SPL top scorer if he had enough seasons to do it.
The sad truth about the SPL is that apart from Celtic, Rangers and Hearts, the teams are basically League One standard, if that. That's illustrated by the examples of players who are come from teams in League One or Two and then become established first teamers in SPL sides. I even think nowadays, if Celtic or Rangers were in the Premier League, they'd get relegated.
It's a shame about the way in which there have been so many flops that have cost millions of pounds. I had no idea Middlesbrough were in any kind of financial trouble. Do you think over the summer Mowbray will have to rely on mainly free transfers and loanees?
yes thats what many people say, but when we were doing good with southgate we still had the likes of Tuncay and adam johnson scoring goals for us. these would have still went if southgate stayed, so we cant really say for sure if we would of got promoted under southgate.
anyways...over the summer hopefully gibson might have some spare 'millions' to give mowbray, but what i like about mowbray is that he does not need 'millions' to go looking for someone. mowbray can buy a 500k player and make him into something special
also, tony mowbray said this the other week:
Mogga speaks quite openly at the Q&A session
Tony Mowbray was very open and honest at a question and answer session with Boro fans last night and revealed the extent of the job he has on his hands.
Highlights of the session are:
1) upto 9 players are on big wages that need to be moved on in the summer.
2) The club has no scouting network .He revealed that when he was at Hibs,WBA and Celtic he had a database of 1,000s of players details etc.Nothing like that exists at the club.Strachan used contacts rather than a scouting network.
3) We have no sports scientist at the club.Mowbray said that clubs like Man Utd have a sports scientist for each player yet we havent got one at all for the whole 1st team. We dont even have enough heart monitors to all of the first team squad.
4) Thinks Joe Bennett has a big future ahead of him and can see a Premiership club paying millions for him.Has tried playing Taylor at left back and Bennett on the wing in training and it doesnt work.
5) When he joined he realised the team lacked balance.
6) Needs to take the club back to ground zero before he can start rebuilding it.
7)Our current wage bill is double the amount of his West Brom side that got promoted and that there are still players on Premiership money.
8) Thinks Steele will be a top keeper but he wants him to come out more for balls and command his area.Him and Pears are working on that but he believes the injury break will do him some good as he had been reading that the fans were on his back.
9) Spelt out how he wants Boro to play but admitted that we currently do not have the players to play the style of football he wants to see.
10) talked about the fans, the area and how much he wants to get the club back playing good football in the Premiership with a full stadium watching.
lol sorry i know this is the Leicester forum and im talking too much now about boro. haha. but anyways i love mowbray and hes made everything clear of what is going on and what will happen etc.:icon_razz
