But its hardly leaving your kids for a couple of minutes in the garden is it they left them on the other side of an apartment block when there was a creche not 50 yards from the resturant.
I have two kids and one due this week and i have never left my kids unattended and never will especially not so i can enjoy a quiet meal if i wanted a quiet life i wouldnt of had kids.
And i can understand how it can come across as harsh but it is my opinion and i will stick by it.
And yes i am sure it was a mistake and they will have to live with it for the rest of their lives but mistakes like that shouldnt happen ever.
it must near on impossible to be with your child 24/7, but if thats what you say i believe you.

Leaving kids in a hotel in an unfamiliar place is different to lettng them pay in the back garden by themselves.

Leaving aside the whole safety issue, there are a lot of other things that could have caused problems by leaving here alone.
What if she'd woken up from a nightmare, or she was feeling ill, but found herself in an unfamiliar place with no sign of her parents, and no idea where they were?

Got to agree with you there Jeff...

:038: Great post Jeff

At the end of the day they left there 3 young children unattended while they went out for a meal so IMO they are very guilty mabye not of killing their child but of neglect and the time will come soon when people start to realise that they need to take part of the blame for the dissaperance of a innocent young girl!!

To say neglect imo is harsh, they were only a matter of yards away and supposedly checking every so often. I dont see much difference to the parents that have an evening out at a pub whilst leaving their kids to play in a garden or games room. In hindsight you could say they made a mistake, but you cannot watch them every second of the day, every parent knows that. If the McCanns had fecked off down the local town then yes it would be neglect and a whole different scenario, but for people to condemn them for this is very harsh imo. I take Jeffs point about waking up in an unfamiliar place but they only did what probaly thousands of other parents still do,and will continue to do. I dont think this makes them any worse than the parents that used to take their babies and young kids in to my local club before the smoking ban, and subjected them to a late evening just so they could selfishly enjoy a night out

But just because thousands of other parents do it doesnt make it right thousands of people drink and drive every day but it is still wrong. And from what was reported it was more than a couple of yards away more like 200. Although i do agree with you about the smoking thing and i am a heavy smoker

your obviously refering to my post (surprise surprise).the point is if you take your eye off your child for 15 mins, be it a hotel or a back garden, they can be abducted.
answer me this jeff, would a child be safer in a locked hotel room or in a back garden. stop splitting hairs with my posts, as a parent you would feel as guilty for letting a kid out of your site wherever it might be.
i was stating that it would be harsh to blame the mccanns for leaving maddy, when lots of people leave their kids unattended.

And who is it to say it is wrong what they did? have they been charged for neglect ?Like i say they didnt do anything that other parents wouldnt do. Where do you draw the line:102: that all children under the age of 5 should be monitored 24/7 and make it a criminal offence if you dont abide by it. Completely unworkable imo and if you analyse the McCann situation some would of done it and some wouldnt. Imo its down to individual choice.

If I was a parent I'd want my kids to be at least in hearing distance if I couldn't see them, not hundreds of yards away, at night, in an unfamiliar place.
There is no excuse for leaving them alone like that.

Yes they did, they did something that most parents would NEVER do, and that's leave their young children unattended while they went out for a meal.

I'm not judging them, it's not my business. I'm just removing myself from your group of "other" parents.

If you take ' going out ' for meal to be 70yds away, then i'll remind my missus that i always take her out for a meal.

ill give you that but the point i was trying to make was to how much blame the mccanns should be given.it sounded a selfish act, eating and drinking while nobody watches the kids but anytime you take your eyes off your kids they are vunerable. you could be as easilly having a cup of tea with your neighbour, but unknown to you at the time your child has fell in a swimming pool or gone under a car.
someone is allways going to say 'fancy leaving them unattended round a swimmingpool' or 'they must have known that was a busy road'.

74 yards = 64 metres. This is twice the length of my garden.

I would NEVER sit right down at the bottom of my garden for a meal while my children are in bed, let alone twice the length.

Maybe that's just me being over protective, but 64 metres away from a hotel room/apartment is just down right bloody stupid.

One thing I've just read, which I didn't notice earlier, is that it's been reported that when they found traces of blood in the hotel room, there had been an attempt to clean the blood up.

If you were abducting a child, why would you clean up after yourself?

Question is whose blood was it and who cleaned it up?
