Mahrez with a goal and an assist at Watford.

He’s rather good, but looked better in another shade of blue

As much as I dislike Man C’s millions and their domination of the league, and hated the whole Mahrez transfer saga, I have found myself really pleased when he’s done well. That’s very rarely happened since Gary Lineker left us!

I’d love it if he proved himself to be a really top world class player.

I feel the exact same. I wish him nothing but the best and am pleased he has proved what we all knew, that he was good enough for a top-tier team.

I’d be interested to know whether any of this is true...

“sources have told Telegraph Sport that on that day he was allegedly aloof and rude. One has even said his behaviour was “embarrassing”, because of the atmosphere he created.”

Also I’m sorry. Much though I love him, you don’t get to say the “fairytale is over” because Vichai has died. That I feel does a disservice to the structure he put in place and a disservice to Top who I feel will continue to be a credit to us all. Who knows what is to come. I for one am not going to stop dreaming.

Interesting article from John Percy about Ranieri, particularly the bit about his behaviour on his return to the KP last month.

I always find the myths regarding our title winning season amusing:
1) He immediately switched to 4 at the back. He didn’t just leave it as it was.
2) Ranieri didn’t change anything - he switched from an attacking full back pairing of Schlupp and De Laet, as soon as we lost to Arsenal, to the more defensively minded Fuchs and Simpson.
3) Spurs were the more attacking and attractive team, we were just boring 1-0 merchants - They scored a grand total of 1 more goal than us.

Lots of shite like this exists.

I didn’t want Ranieri sacked, but I don’t own the club and can understand why those that do did what they had to do.

Feck it! I’m leathered.

I am going to watch Fulham with interest after tomorrow. Naturally I want us to win and win well...

But after that I do hope Ranieri does well. It is down to him. No doubt he will have to have a good transfer window. I will judge on that.

As a final thought, I don’t think we would have won the Prem with Pearson in charge, but I also don’t think Claudio would have had his success if it had not been for the work of Pearson, Walshe and Shakespeare. He certainly did not build that team.

Sub note - I will probably regret the above post in the morning, so please don’t over-analyse.

What Ranieri did at the club in our title winning season was genius. He made loads of changes to individuals and our collective play, and each one maximised our capabilities whilst minimising our limitations. He then deflected the attention off the players and managed the pressure remarkably. Nobody else I've seen manage us was remotely close to being that good.

In his second season, circumstances dictated a change of approach. We lost Kante, we had many more games to play, and we lost the element of surprise. It was perfectly understandable for him to tinker. For lots of perfectly rational reasons, it failed. He had to go as he'd not got the ability to redress the slide that occurred. Desperately sad, but it was the right decision.

His reign is no more complicated than that.

The consequences for Ranieri is that he'll always be defined by that title winning season. He'll never be able to do anything comparable. If he felt weird coming back and acted that way, it's perfectly understandable. He will be asked about us every day of his life from the moment he left until the day he dies.

Spot on

He didn't just change things, he revolutionised them

I find it completely baffling that many fans, and people like John Percy, don't realise the bleeding obvious and still talk about how he just left things as they were. Idiots, the lot of 'em

I completely agree with BN’s post, and to say Claudio didn’t change anything is utterly ridiculous.

BUT, when the likes of Jamie Vardy have come out and said he didn’t change anything, that’s where I presume others get it from.

What I’m assuming Vardy means is that he didn’t change anything in relation to the staff, training, match preparation, sports science etc etc, which I do believe is true. Clearly he changed so much on the field.

Do not forget that it was Cambiasso that engineered the great escape not Pearson.

So journos just write any old made up bollocks but people on here know for a fact, despite having no connection to the club whatsoever, Ranieri revolutionised things??

Weirder by the day!

A number of players came out and said he came in and made very little changes. Obviously the people who played under him don't know the real facts but the anonymous forum posters here know everything.

This doesn't mean I don't think he played any part it our title win. Quite the opposite. Only a terrible manager would come in and completely change things when a team is on top 4 form.

Changing a RB for another RB and a LB for another LB is hardly revolutionising things.

His real impact was the way he handle things and kept the pressure off until we had CL confirmed.

No way would we have won the league without him and the way he handled things.
