It would be a gamble for sure but my two cents is:

a.) We took a gamble with an even more inexperienced Maresca and he has turned out to be a pretty damn good manager so far...

b.) The little managerial experience he has dad, he's literally been great in every role. League cup win and a decent finish in the table in his first season in Holland deserves credit. Solid interim showing for Man U.

Plus our record under King Power in appointing unproven managers has been damn good with Pearson and Maresca.

KP have got it right more times than they've got it wrong in general. Even Brendan you'd have to say was a good choice it just took them far too long to react when things started to turn sour a few years in.. Cooper though was a wrong un.

Pearson had managed over 200 matches before King Power appointed him. He was fairly unproven when Mandaric appointed him first time round.

I would argue King Power gave too much influence to BR and that is why it went sour?
 
It is easy for Potter to say no to us if he still has 3 years of his Chelsea contract to run.
He is probably picking up twice what we could pay him, so where is the incentive to immerse himself in a world of grief by having to work hard.

And work for an unqualified owner who hasn’t got a ****ing clue, and work with average players who have far too much power.

Anyone would be mad to take this job right now.

He's just a name who has done very little in management.

It might as well be Lampard if this is our approach.

We need a manager with the knowledge and authority to get a tune out of a muddled and technically challenged squad.

He did well at PSV. 51 games. Won 33, drew 10, lost only 8. 64% win average.

It's also not like he hasn't done anything until recently. He has been in and around coaching and good managers for something like 10 years now.
 
His Man U contract was until 2026 I wonder if that’s a sticking point

He did what was slightly above average for PSV with a group he knew very well because he'd been the youth coach for years.

He then quit before the end of his only season because those players rebelled against his methods and he fell out with staff.

Had he not had a bang average couple of weeks caretaking Man Utd, he'd be way off our radar.

We’re unlikely to survive if we break the bank (and PSR rules) to get a new manager, and get a points deduction as a result.

It's a false economy.

Surely we learnt this in 22/23 when we decided to try to save money by not improving the squad and then it cost us an absolute fortune.

Anyway, it costs much more to sack a manager three months into a three year contract and then have to pay another one, than it would to get someone good in the first place.
 
One way we could help our PSR is by clearing out the idiots responssible for these decisions - but also bear in mind that compensation for managers is usually a fraction of the cost of even ordinary players. (ie. $4m quote for Corberan, against multiples of that for each of Okoli, Fattuwu and Skipp) Are we really saying that as well as spending nothing on a new manager, we're not going to give them anything to work with in the transfer window? May as well give up now (and may as well have kept Cooper!)

I think you under (or over depending on your view) estimate the radar. Enzo was on it and actually got the gig despite having 14 games with Parma. They looked at him because of what he had done and who he had been around in coaching. It's not out of character for the club to pick a manager like that.

There is a bit of a difference between Pep and ETH though. Apart from both being as bald as a coot.
