Re: Championship Taking Shape
Bloody difficult league!!!!!!! We'll do well to finish mid table.
No. It is the premiership that is a bloody difficult league.
Last year we almost stayed up despite having a rubbish set of players that never became a team.
The team that won League One had better players than the team that went down. Does anyone think that De Vries or Carl Cort or those Hungarian wingers would have got into Nigel's team? Does anyone think that Steve Walsh would have been conned into recommending Nigel sign Hellings or Jonathan Hayes?
I believe the team that won League One would have been mid-table. Not only are they better than the players that got us relegated they played as a team which is something Martin Allen's squad never did.
Now think of the advantages this season. We can sign better players simply by being in the Championship. We will never know what players did not join us last season because they would not play in League One.
Last season Nigel and his staff had to start signing players immediately. Since then Steve Walsh has had a season to look and look again at various players. No Martin Allen nonsense about signing players on the word of an agent these days.
The pre-season is going to be a key time. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal arfe likely to want young players for the pre-season before loaning them out. Before anyone says we are dreaming about those clubs think of Cleverley, Gilbert and Hobbs.
There is a final thought. many of the bigger clubs start the season as losers - relegated from the Premiership or having lost in the playoffs.Leicester start the season with skyhigh morale.
I shall be disappointed if we do not reach the playoffs and more importantly I think Milan will be also. I would add one word of caution. If things go wrong as they can for even good managers I hope there will be no knee-jerk criticism of Nigel Pearson. We have changed managers too often in the last five years. Nigel has had success last season. If things go wrong this season I hope he will get the backing of the fans and of Milan.
