Maynard may have told them he's not going anywhere yet and will be leaving on a Bosman next summer, so any bid we made was pointless.
A lot of players do that these days. A recent example was Keiren Westwood at cov. They were desperate to sell him but he wouldn't go because he wanted to become a free agent this summer.

I think Bristol City should be applauded if they have held out and been true to their word regarding not selling to another club in the Championship.

If they can afford to have him leave in January and they can still get a similar fee to the 6 million we were supposed to have offered it will have been a good decsion.

If we were not the club trying to buy him and it was a rival we would be congratulating BC on their stance.

Agreed. They are now in the same situation we were last season with Bothroyd. He'll keep himself in the shop window until January, and then will either go elsewhere for buttons, or withdraw into his 'keep injury free' bubble until next summer.The Wurzels better hope that he's scored enough goals to keep them up by January or they will have even bigger problems than they have now. I'm disappointed we didn't get him but it was looking as though it was going to be that way a long time ago. Hopefully we go back in for him at a later date but I do get the feeling Bristol City have missed a trick with this one. I will eat my hat if he stays there and I'd be equally surprised if they can command anything close to £6m for him between January and the end of the season. I gues they are clinging on to the hope he will sign a new contract or fire them to promotion this year, both of which are very unlikely....
