I am probably going to get lambasted for this but IMO Sylla should keep his place. I agree he looks too laid back, but I think that is in the style he plays, he does need to try and track back and get stuck in a bit more and we know he can do it because he has in the past, but he is doing what a winger needs to do and that is beat players and get the crosses in. At one point on Saturday the ball was passed out to him in the second half and he didn't even change pace to collect it (his laid back style when really you would expect him the be sprinting it down) and two Saints defenders came charging him down, in came the tackles, but with a couple of close touches he left them standing and raced to the byline and got the cross in. He has the skill and touch to create things which IMO is what we need and if that means that Maybury needs to stay back more and defend and the central midfielders work a bit harder then so be it. We have been calling for wingers with a bit of pace and skill for ages and in the squad we have some. The problem is getting the balance right, graft, skill and flair and on Saturday it wasn't quite there, but that had more to do with the 'absent' Williams. I like Williams alot and think he could be a great player for us, his skill is there, but he just doesn't get involved enough. If he took a game by the scruff of the neck he could control the midfield no problem and we would be a better team for it, but because he doesn't we are left lacking. I also feel Smith didn't get involved enough, but can understand that with his age and making his home debut and did give us a glimpse of what he can do.
This is all about opinions and this is mine, I can see why Sylla is getting grief but he bring something to the team that means we could create something out of nothing. We could have a team full of grafters and we could be quite solid, but you do need flair aswell to win games and there are not many players around that can give you both flair and graft especially in our price bracket.
