If somebody was severely depressed about the state of their teeth and it was giving them suicidal tendencies then I think they should get them done on the NHS regardless or not if they had caused the decay themselves.Doctors are not idiots they know if someone is faking a mental illness..well most do.
Nice on HF, this post has given me an idea.

Anyway who said my dental problem was due to decay?????????

but they chose to start drinking and smoking......:102:

Sex change ops should be paid for, I don't think the NHS was meant for this when it started all those years ago.

Was it meant to treat drunk drivers when they have just wiped out families?,was it meant to rebuild the face of some moron who got into a fight and got battered on a Saturday night? Was it meant to fix the broken leg of someone who played football on some park on a Saturday afternoon?
You can't start picking and choosing who is going to have to pay and who gets it free.

Yes, but that refers to the treatment, i was saying the comparison of the actual conditions wasnt a very good one.

And i agree that people should have to pay for a sex change if it is simply "im interested to see what its like to be a woman, please make me so" i can see why someone would see that as no different to a nose job or breast implants, but in the same way you can have plastic surgery on the NHS if its facial disfigurements that arent your fault and could be genuinely life-threatening, i think if something's possibly gonna put someone's life in danger if they dont have the operation done then the NHS should pay for it. You cant put a price on a human life IMO

Do you think you are arguing with me? You are going over old ground with stupid scenarios.

They choose to let you pay for dental work.

One of my missus' friends had extremely large tits, so big that they put constant pressure on her spine and would result in curvature of the spine as she got older. She had a breast reduction on the NHS, even though it wasn't life threatening and without the threat to her back would be considered cosmetic. Should she not have had it, she was a freaky weirdo by your definition as she didn't fall into the average band of human kind.

No I'm just giving an opinion.Has your friend Melton says this a discussion on a Forum if you don't like it clear off.I can't quite see why they are stupid scenarios, everyday things IMO:102:

There is a medical condition, where the person wants limbs cut off, I cannot remember the name, but you would say it's right to cut them off and please them? They send them to shrinks who attempt to put their minds right instead. But these people want their limbs cut off not their heads looking at!

I can't really assess that piece of information, without a complete set of good quality pictures to see just how bad the problem was

Cutting a limb off isn't a great idea though, its going to harm you and restrict you.Having a sex change or whatever isn't going to do that to you.You come up with some very odd comparisons

Couldn't she just lay on her back for the rest of her life. With tits like you describe she could find work too.

What about people who are depressed with their illnesses and would like assisted euthanasia - why won't the NHS help them?

Do we even understand enough about the brain to cure mental problems?

I think/know some mental problems can never be cured but they can be controlled.
A pyschiatrist once told me about a patient of his who insisted on carrying an axe around with him in the back of his car and repeatedly told him (the pyschiatrist) that he was going to cut his own head off.The shrink never reported this to the Police, which he should have, because he knewthat this would more than likely cause the bloke to panic and actually carry out his threat rather than if he actually kept the axe in his car he would know it was there but nver use it.As far as I know the bloke is still driving round with the axe in the boot of his car
I thought it was interesting anyway

Of course she should have had the operation, it was affecting her spine and would have led to serious back problems in later life.

Only a moron would even try to pass that off as cosmetic. Why do you think people might see her as a "freaky weirdo"?

There is a condition where the person hates their limbs that much they want them amputated, it may be just an arm or both legs etc. I bet Boc will know the name of the condition. It's not as odd as a transexual though!

Cosmetic just means affecting someone's appearence. Surgery on cleft pallets are considered cosmetic, despite being life-saving. Its not just getting needless breast inplants or nose jobs

I'm not saying there isn't a condition like that.Removing limbs is hardly the same as a sex change though
