I don't understand.Allowing somebody to have a sex change isn't going to harm them or make their quality of life poorer,probably the complete opposite but allowing them to have limbs removed is going to seriously effect their ability to lead a 'normal' life and sanctioning such an operation could well be deemed irresponsible.Like I said some mental illnesses can never be cured but can be controlled,it would sem to me that controlling the urge for someone to wanting to cut their limbs off is better than allowing them to have their 'wish'

There is a medical condition, where the person wants limbs cut off, I cannot remember the name, but you would say it's right to cut them off and please them? They send them to shrinks who attempt to put their minds right instead.But these people want their limbs cut off not their heads looking at!

The problem is a lot of those people then go on to take a shotgun or similar to themselves in a bid to "ruin" the limb beyond repair, so that the hospital is them forced to amputate, putting their lives at risk and causing an avoidable strain on the emergency services. If, after in depth consultation, the doctor deemed this was likely surely it is better to pre-empt the patient and remove it for them?

What about people who are depressed with their illnesses and would like assisted euthanasia - why won't the NHS help them?

Because it's illegal. You can get abortions on the NHS, should this option be removed?
