he also did some good for the club, as our coming out of admin was aided by our assurance that we'd be promoted....something we wouldn't have managed with Deane and Wright up top

Why? In modern football the chairman or his sidekick nearly allways do the deals when pompey signed crouch HR said that the press conference was the first time he had spoken to peter in a year these days the managers just tell the chairman who they want!

That might be true, but at nearly every other club the manager is the one who talks to the media about players, not the owner.
If the owner is the one talking about potential signings it makes it look like he's the one deciding who to buy, whether he is or not.
