If Claudio wanted to live in my spare room until his dying days he is more than welcome.

Nige? He can stay in the shed. Can't trust him with the china.

A great job, but one season ?

The single most spectacular season in the whole history of Leicester City

The most amazing fantastic achievement we have ever seen or are likely to see ever again

Pearson's reign 'possibly' overshadowed by Ranieri

The bloke 'overshadowed' everything and anything we have ever done

Short memories ?

Too feckin' right
And he made me blubber like a big Jessie.

Yes, definitely the most spectacular thing we've seen.
Still one season though however you cut it. And we've not exactly pushed on.

Memories that have been overshadowed by Ranieri is what I'm referring to - not Pearson's actual time.
Pearson is obviously overshadowed by Ranieri because of that unbelievable year.
My point was though that if Ranieri had had an average season and come 10th (I know hypothetical) would Pearson be getting the bashing he is? I don't think so.

Doesn't feel like long ago that many on this forum were saying best since MoN.

Pearson is a good Championship level manager.

A sort of poor many 'Tony Pulis'. He did galvanise teams very well and organise very well, but tactically he is no better than CS. Pearson was absolutely dreadful for 75% of the season when we sat at the bottom of the league marooned.

We were in danger of going down with a whimper - a bit like Middlesbrough did last season (was it?). Cambiasso rescued us.

When the heat is on NP he is found wanting and was found out by nearly all other Premier league managers as being tactically one dimensional and inept.

He will never change, he is a dinosaur. Once pressured he will expllode (for proof see his stint at Derby).

I really find it staggering than anyone coudl point out that our football messiah - Claudio ONLY succeeded for one season. ****ing hell. Jesus ****ing christ.

****ing hell!

I actually looked at the 14/15 results to remind myself of that season and the individual games. We could be considered poor for about a third of the games, not 75%. Short memory.

We were bottom with either 10 or 11 games to go, surely we were poor to be in that position, maybe very unlucky for 30 odd games then?

Because something other than NP had to change things.

He 'stuck with it' for 30 games even though it needed to change.
Do you not remember a certain formation change? Should have happened earlier, granted. But to say Cambiasso rescued is damn right disrespectful.

We were a newly promoted team who came up and spent very little. What were you expecting?

The consistently excellent recruitment from Steve Walsh made NP's management appear to be much better than it really was.

NP was a good organiser and he borrowed many ideas from Allardyce. He was fecking garbage tactically and lost in the dark ages in many respects.

The change of formation at WBA was forced on him by injury. Many accounts have talked about how the change in approach and attitude was triggered by Cambiasso. Although it was with NP's blessing to his credit.

I do agree and accept that his psychotic episodes were at least partly deliberate. However, his disgusting nepotism, arrogance and stubbornness were all obvious flaws in his character and ability.

All anyone really needs to know though is demonstrated by his suitors since leaving us. If he was well regarded in the game, wouldn't he have been more sought after?

This is a much more eloquent and succinct way of explaining the point I was failing to make. An excellent post.

Everton must be really struggling to understand what has happened with that consistency. Perhaps the fact is that Walsh and Pearson made a good team and neither is as good without the other.

One of a backroom staff that Pearson put together. That's good management surely?
And again - Pearson gave the OK for Cambiasso to be brought in. To say Cambiasso saved us is wrong. He didn't call LCFC and say "Hello chaps, look like you need saving" now did he

You can’t just make that judgement on scorelines. The reason many games look close in scoreline is because after the victory over Man Utd Pearson inexplicably decided that trying to score goals wasn’t for us. We sat back, kept things narrow, and conceded enough that we lost almost every game. We were awful to watch. I remember being beyond furious after our capitulation at Villa in the Cup.

I don’t know whether Cambiasso had any input in our change of system and approach or not. But once it was agreed that we try attacking again we started wining games and survived comfortably. It’s a cop out referring to our newly promoted status that season, by the way. An average of one of the three promoted teams is relegated each season. And never has a side who were such outstanding champions of the league below been relegated. Indeed we finished in the lowest position of the clubs (Reading and Newcastle) who have won as many points in the second tier following promotion.

Contrast Pearson’s tactical inability with the major changes Ranieri made several times in our title winning season. Switching stacking full backs in De Laet and Schlupp for Simpson and Fuchs when we were playing exciting football but conceding too many. Faced with the same problem Pearson made the whole side defensive rather than target particular position. Ranieri then changed things again around Christmas time, making us play narrower and deeper and specifically counter attacking through Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy. We became even tighter, ceded possession more, but had enough in attack to win most of our remaining games.

Pearson is a tactical pygmy in comparison. Great at building a club, given time. Although mistakes were made along the way there too. We should have been promoted in 12/13 when our collapse was almost unforgivable. That run saw worse football than anything we’ve experienced since winning the league. He isn’t the man for a club looking for consistent top half top flight finishes.

The Everton signings this season seem as far removed from SW type signings that I can imagine.

Pressure to sign mostly known stars rather than finding and nurturing possible talent?

Maybe SW was better at spotting potential rather than outright current ability.
