They spent how much on Alfonso, could you ever see us spending that much on a player ? We are dithering over 2 million on some 1st Division player. In my opinion they have a lot more financial clout than us and for that reason I see them as a next step

I see them as on the slope we were on shortly after spending an equivalent on Akinbadbuyi.

I don't think Middlesbrough are a 'next step' club to be honest.

Me neither. If Boro sack Southgate it's because he's doing a shit job. They will look at other managers and if Leicester are doing well then Pearson will undoubtedly be mentioned. But if we're doing well then why would he want to leave? He would be making the progress he had hoped for and surely a move would be crazy?? If we're not doing well then Boro will look elsewhere surely?

Fair enough so who would you be wary of ?

I don't think we need to be wary of anyone, he has had one good season in League 1, with a team with the most resources in the division (arguably). So far he did as much as was expected, if we do well this season then we can start to worry, right now he is the equivelant of Cox IMO

Of who might come and snatch Pearson? At this moment in time nobody but as I have said in another post, I would never have seen Michael Owen at Hull. So anything can happen.

But I do seriously believe that Pearson realises he has an opportunity to progress quite far with Leicester, certainly as far as he could take Boro. He appears to have a good relationship with Mr.Impossible (MM) and that alone is woth noting.

But like I said Boro splashed 10 million on Alfonso, shite I know, can you ever imagine MM spending that much on a player ? I just think a team like Boro have more clout than us but I might well be wrong

I think the finances of both teams are far more similar now than they were when Boro were paying that kind of money, although I'm sure Southgate will have more to spend pre season than Pearson will.

I'm not saying that it wont happen and if Boro were to be looking for a new manager this time next year, then we may well have to worry. But a mid season move, I think, would be crackers given the potential that Pearson has with Leicester at this moment.

Southgate ill have more because of the players he will have to sell i.e Downing,Wheater,Tuncay. They will get a decent wedge for them

That was when Boro were in the premiership, just after the big TV money was announced. Had we been in the prem and getting that sort of money, I don't see why not. After all, the season before last, we pissed away more money than just about anyone else in the Championship.

Now, given Boro's debt and wage bill, even with the parachute payments, I wouldn't have thought they have much financial clout at all.

If we do well this season we get promoted and Nigel is in the Premiership. We have been so traumatized by the failures of Taylors and his successors that we are thinking of ourselves as a mid-table Championship club.
Historically we are either in the top division fighting relegation or the second division going for promotion. We have periods when we are a good top division team (Bloomfield and O'Neil) and periods when we are middle of the Championship but these are exceptions.
After all even in the last seven years which are the worst I have known we had a period of winning promotion under Micky Adams and a season in the Prem.
There is a danger that we start thinking like a small club. A city like Leicester with only one football club should always be in the Premiership or close to it. If it is not then someone (e.g. Taylor, Levein, Allen) has not been doing their job properly.

Does that also apply to Coventry, Cardiff, Wakefield and Bradford that are all bigger cities with one club?

it's up to us to make sure we're above middlesborough and stay there, we may be wanting him to go by christmas, only time will tell.

So anything above the relegation zone keeps Pearson safe? That'd be my guess.

As long as we aren't rooted to the bottom of the table, the job is his until he chooses otherwise.

But we'll be speccing out a statue for the bloke when we are 10 points clear by christmas!

If Southgate doesn't get a good start then he will surely get the chop. In which case Pearson is a likely candidate for the Boro job.

I recognise that LCFC has the potential to be at least the equal of Middlesborough - but the reality is that for the time being and for obvious reasons they will have more spending power. So if the deal was right in my opinion he would go.

We need to progress as quickly as possible to the point where we are not vulnerable to having our manager pinched by the likes of Boro - but then of course we would still be vulnerable to bigger club predators.
This is the way football and professionalism works - always has, always will. No matter how deluded people get about the perceived loyalty of a decent manager, they still go if the offers right.
