We do not have, for obvious financial reasons, a Scholes or Gerrard, or in our past a Muzzy or Lennon that can hold the ball in midfield and either run at the defence or place the killer pass to a forward or a winger.

I know that but neither do a lot of teams. But other teams try and have a go rather than just taking the easy option and going back.

I agree when the midfield so often place a pass sideways or backwards. Maybe RK needs to show them the art of running into a forward space and expecting to meet the forward pass into that space! Didn't RK promise us 'back to basic simple stuff'?

I am lacing up my boots and becoming midfield lynchpin.

Debut against the sheepshaggers, a 25 yard volley before celebrating in front of the Derby fans and storming back to the faithful arms held high, kissing the badge.

We knew at the start of the season that we hadn't got a lot of quality - so as you say it was going to be down to effort;also being tactically astute and generally getting the best out of ordinary players. Unfortunately that is not happening...and I don't think it's going to happen now. Fortunately, i am suffering from a bad cold so didn't make the effort to go today.

If MM does take over and things start to motor, I don't expect that many of the present lot being in the team that starts next season and can't imagine RK being manager (hope for his sake they find him a coaching job).

I don't buy the comments that we were good in the second half, we were shite, just not as shite as the first half.

That 2nd half performance would possibly land us mid table at best if it were the standard for the season.

Anybody who calls that "good" with the poor standard of the rest of this league is obviously easily pleased

Rubbish

The only reason we looked better second half was because Preston decided to settle for the scoreline, they could see City didnt have a creative power, so they went two banks of four and soaked it up.

One bit of inventine, Tiatto's corner nearly provided a goal. The other chance was just a defender's miscalcuation of the ball in the air.

The build-up to Preston's goal is how I'd like to see us play. Great football, lucky with the rebound but great stuff. Preston were taking 4-5 passes to break down half of City's side, it took City probably about 15 passes sideaways and backwards before playing a 40-60 ball.

we were too negative. stearman and hughes (when they moved) went for the same ball, player, space etc. neither looked eager to move forward when the ball was in the opposition half. maybury will never receive a positive comment from me.....not many positives from today other than a few players ran about a bit

1 point i will disagree with though was Macauley. I thought his first half perforance was utter shite. He was in Ageymang's pocket all half. He was second to the ball each time despite on quite a few occasions being in front of the player.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought McAuley was poor. His lack of pace was really exposed today.

i think alot of people at the ground thought it, but wouldn't say it as he isnt one of the hated players yet. some tosser next to me was saying "has sylla ever created anything" i asked whether he had seen last weeks game, surprisingly he does not go to many games

Yep, he looked much better when Nugent and Agemang went off. Felt sorry for Logan yesterday, the standard of backpassing to him was terrible, yet he dealt with them all without any problems. Think he is the find of the season for us.

BTW i thought Preston were superb and that the first half was as much down to thier quality as our poor performance. It does show that without a midfield you can only go so far in this league.

True - and his distribution was a bit suspect at times

He did, however, win every single header from start to finish

And compared to Maybury, Hughes, Stearman, and Fryatt he was feckin' outstanding....

Think he's just crap, Alex

We know thats not true, i remember the Reading game at home last season when he and Hume looked absolutly quality up front and gave the league Champions a real hard time. He is a young lad having a dip in form - we need to support him not give him a hard time.

totally agree MCF!

while they put on the city shirt we should be supporting everyone of them, even if they do play rubbish.

Do you remember the Reading game, i left the stadium (despite the draw) thinking we have got a great strike partnership in the making. Let's not be too quick to write it off, i reckon if they can gel again they could be one of the best pair in this division.

What is going on with Fryatt? It must be fitness......

I think it's also about confidence. The number of times he took an extra touch and ended up losing the ball isn't about fitness, it looked as though he wanted to take several touches before playing the ball, shooting etc, rather than doing things first time, as though he didn't have confidence in his own ability.
