Puel out?

It’s very early to decide if the central defenders are not up to it.

Still hope for Ricardo for me too.

I’m completely unconvinced about Ghezzel but it’s early for him too.

They might all be quite good under a different manager.

Ricardo looks like he could be a very good player, problem is what position does he play 'cos he aint a full back.

Ricardo looks like he might be good in a position we'll possibly never try....a different manager may though. But for Puelis it seems a waste.

The central defenders may come good but given the amount spent and how shit our defending is you'd expect one to play for us.

Gazelle looks absolute shite.

Im really not sold on three at the back - England showed in the world cup that against decent opposition it just means that you cede the midfield. I think that's why Southgate moved to 4 against Croatia, and funnily enough Chilwell looked more thn than decent in that game.

I like Ricardo, and Mendy has been effectively reborn in centre midfield. Ihenacho is much improved under Claude, as Grey.

The big problem has been at centre half, Morgan is just past it now. Sadly I don't think anything good can come of him putting on a shirt again before his contract expires. I was pleased we got Evans, but he's looked just like you'd expect a bloke who got relegated with West Brom from all I've seen of him. He should be no more than the insurance policy on the bench unless he can improve rapidly. That leaves us with the Croatian and Turkish lads, neither of whom I know much at all about due to their lack of involvement. What i will say though, is that if one was loaned out immediately to the SPL and the other has such language issues that three months down the line he can't manage football speak, there's a problem with recruitment rather than coaching.

We saw this story last summer and the one before, but it just gets clearer and clearer irrespective of what happens to Claude - Rudkin et al have to go

I can’t pretend to know what goes on behind the scenes, but how this guy got promoted, and then kept his job with the F ups we have committed in the transfer market astounds me. Yes there have been good signings but they have been outweighed by questionable decisions.

This post hits the nub of the problem but, perhaps not in the way it was intended. Ricardo my well be an excellent wing-back but, if the club know that they have a manager that plays a back four; why spend a fortune on a player that does not fit the pattern? It is not just Ricardo; Slimani, Iborra, Silva; we have some excellent players who do not complement the squad.

It may be fair to suggest that Puel should play a system that best suits the available players, OR that he should be given authority to buy in the players that fit his game plan. Either could be correct, depending upon the discussions that took place before he became the manager. What I find baffling, is that our owners, who seem to be both committed and astute, allow this schism between transfers and managerial style to continue through several reiterations.

I think that the main reason that I cannot support the Puel out brigade is that I don't believe that such a move gets to the crux of the problem.

Who selects our signings?

Rudkin, Macia and Puel all have a say but it’s Rudkin that does the deals
Perhaps that is the issue I do not know, is there any momentum with the Nathaniel Clyne deal? 3-5-2 seems the obvious formation especially with Ndidi and Mendy not sure if Puel will go that route, all I can say is he is on thin ice and stubbornness could cost him his job. I have been very much in his corner however , his backing of Morgan is bizzare I know I have slated Morgan alot on here but he really does add pressure on the entire team it is like playing with 10 men.

That’s how Claudio states it worked when he and Walsh were still here so that’s what I went with, obviously Rudkin could have taken over completely

Puel could have taken over completely for all you know

People just make up any old shit

This looks really informative, :icon rolleyes:

The best way to deal with shitty ad infested clickbaity bollocks websites full of bullshit is not to post links to them.
If you happen to see one by accident, you can just tell us what the site says without posting the link.

Just posting a link means they get more visitors and earn more money, leading to them publishing more bullshit.

A year on and I think we've discovered everything there is to know about Puel and his abilities.

If we want to finish a mediocre 12th, he's your man. He'll do enough to ensure that we put away the weak teams and get enough points to be clear of a relegation battle. However, he's not the man if our aspirations are any more than that.

He's spent his career in a weak french league pissy passing about and not being challenged too hard by anyone. It's notable that we fold when anyone gets at us. He has no answer to that approach and he's not learnt anything from two seasons of Premier League football either.

His formation is an opponents dream. Every team that faces us knows exactly how we'll set up and how we'll play. It is easy to expose as a number of managers have said recently. The defensive shape is awful and the gaps are easy to exploit. Our midfield is energetic and combative but lacks anybody to worry an opponent. Going forward we are lob sided because the best available players don't fit his shape and his back up options are not good enough.

He has promoted youth and changed our playing style to a more controlled one. Some like this, some don't. All I'd say is that we are not good enough at passing to out-play a strong opponent. We will always come up short so I really don't see the point. I read someone recently describe him as a 'Poundshop Pep' and that's about right. It's enough to beat the likes of Newcastle and Huddersfield, but better sides will pick us off when we inevitably lose possession. It's extremely easy to counteract.

Puel also remains a very difficult man to like. He's dour, monotone, and tediously repetitive. He will never innovate or excite. Even if you don't think he should be responsible for inspiring fans, he should be able to inspire players and he patently cannot. He appears to be decent on a one-to-one basis with some of the players but collectively it's painful as demonstrated by our starts and restarts and his touchline interventions.

His one true achievement is evolving us from our title winning side to a younger one. I don't agree with some of his decisions in doing this but I respect the fact that he's made choices and stuck with them. Someone had to do it and he has.

However, I feel that we're just existing as a team right now. We're just waiting for a run of defeats that will see him sacked.

I genuinely believe we have some good players. The youth of the side is an exciting prospect, should they stay. I feel we aren’t making the most of the talent we have.

That’s my brief summary.
