Puel out?

BN, although I don’t always agree with you -and in this instance I don’t agree with all of your post, you make some valid points.

I do feel that if Puel would see what is obvious (5 at the back) we could kick on higher than the 10th-12th we are currently heading towards.

I feel as if I am waiting for someone to light the blue touch-paper and we will suddenly become very good but I have to agree that the longer this fails to materialise the less likely it is to happen.

In fairness he does have the charisma of a brick and his comments are somewhat repetitive (I’m being polite).

I have no like or dislike to Puel, I just feel that the current managerial merry go round has to stop.

If he were to go and be replaced with someone of Benitez’ calibre I certainly wouldn’t lose any sleep but if we sack him without a clear plan and an excellent successor already agreed and waiting in the wings I would rather ‘the devil you know.’

All a bit ‘meh’ at the moment.

I think he’s boring, his football is boring and our results are boring.

Quite how we go from being the most unpredictable team in football to the bore fest we are at the moment is beyond me. We’ve got the players to be much better.

In my opinion, I don't think the Puel years will be looked back upon with any great respect.

He will be seen as a Sousa, a Megson, a Levein. Non of the fondness that even Holloway or the like have had. He's just another manager that surly should be doing better but just hasn't got the class.

I’m not aware of any fondness among LCFC fans for Holloway, except DG. He is quite rightly blamed for the string of meek surrenders that resulted in us being deservedly dumped into League One.

Puel is certainly of a higher calibre than Megson and Levein. Megson was here for six weeks of the dullest football ever played anywhere ever by anyone ever in the worst season in the club’s history before inexplicably getting a Premier League job, and Levein brought us Momo Sylla.

Puel has at least some positive contribution to show for his time here: results that even the leaders of the Puel Out camp would have to admit were impressive in their context, the rebirth of Mendy, finishing in the top half from whatever the shit we were doing before. He just may not be quite enough to take us to the next level. That’s his only crime really. That and the completely pointless defence.

Summed up as “meh”, then.

Sousa was a runt of a manager. Absolutely dreadful. I quite liked Megson and was disappointed when he left. He was a defence first manager of course, but I thought given time he'd have done a decent job with what he had.

I also think Holloway gets a bad press. He wasn't great by any means but he was on a hiding to nothing and he's never really done anything without a preseason to shape his squad so I think it was a case of bad appointment rather than wrong person.

Levein was very much like Puel. Not quite shit enough to be derided but never going to do anything much. Dour man and dour football. He never had the resources or players that Puel has though.

I didn't particularly care for the Sousa way either. Sousa is what Puel reminds me of most, honestly. Trying to do things a certain way before he's got the right players to do it.

We are marking time, and that is all

Making up the numbers in the Premier League, just occupying space whilst those around us aspire to achieve something, even if it's unlikely that they will. We don't even try

Just a pointless, constant meh existence, whilst we chuck away the potential of some pretty decent players

We are the void, the void is us

The positive with the Puel reign is we have a clear structure and direction, we are looking to develop younger players and play a more sustainable brand of possession based football, however here comes the concern I have with Puel, personally I am unconvinced he has the ability to progress us beyond 8-10th at best, which isn't terrible but given the ambitions of the owners and players at the club will not be good enough.

The direction we are moving in relies on us progressing and challenging for Europe to retain our younger players like Maguire, Chilwell, Maddison & Gray and moving forward hopefully the next group of Benkovic, Soyuncu, Choudary & Barnes. However if we cannot match these players ambitions then we will run the risk of losing these types of young hungry players to the big 6 every transfer window.

We need a Manager who buys into this ethos but has the ability to maximise the talent at his disposal, there is no reason why we can't be challenging for the top 6 and have a real go at the domestic cup competitions to demonstrate to these players the club has the ability to meet their long term ambitions. Is Puel the man for this, I am not sure, what I do know is that Sam Alladyce is definitely not the man and appointing him would undo the last 12 months work. My choice would be Brendan Rodgers, perfect fit for everything we are looking to achieve and a Coach that I think will take us to the next level.

Celtic are currently second in the league. Joint with Kilmarnock but have a superior goal difference.

What’s wrong with Rodgers (beyond him being a bit weird/dodgy)?

In footballing terms, he did okay at Liverpool, but nothing special. He spent £300m and finished 2nd, 6th and 7th in his three seasons. His previous jobs were a bit hit and miss too. You can't really say anything about what he's done at Celtic. It's just automatic really that they should win the league and cups there. He's done nothing in European football though.

As a person, he's an arrogant sod. Full of himself. He has a portrait of himself in his house for example. I quite like this in a manager though. Ego and arrogance are sometimes necessary. A lot of his former players speak highly of him which suggests that he knows how to come across to players.

Reading between the lines, he's been trying to get away from Celtic since the end of last season. He probably knows that any longer there and his value in the Premier League will reduce too far. His agent was (apparently) desperately touting his name to us in the summer. If you think that none of the top six will go for him and you couldn't see him going to Everton, we're probably the biggest and best club he could get. Prior to going to Celtic, he was turned down by Swansea about going back there which shows how low it got for him.

One quote from a Liverpool forum sums it up well I think: "He is not the clueless imbecile that some have made out .. but he is also not the genius that he seems to think he is".

I think he's probably the most likely replacement were we to ditch Puel in the near future. He wouldn't be my first choice but I'd rather him than Puel.
