I know of two incidents this year at one of the places I posted all those hummingbird photos from in the TBers Photos thread where birdwatchers actively saved lives. A guy with a broken leg was found and carried down the mountain and a highly distressed woman was found by English birders and led to safety (in both cases "safety" was the Border Patrol who will at least make sure they're well before sending them back to Mexico).
It's absolutely sick. The worst part is that people are being told by the "coyotes" who smuggle them across the border that there's a big city called Phoenix five minutes away, where they will have a job and home waiting for them. The poor, naive buggers have no idea that they're going to spend the next few days or weeks on their own attempting to cross mountains and deserts in a brutal Southern Arizona summer. Some people don't even have a bottle of water with them when they attempt the trip. :icon_sad:
