Ranieri Sacked

Players going to the board to raise their concerns is not the issue for me. For all we know feedback may have happened often or it could all have been made up as it isn't exactly beyond belief given what we've witnessed this season. The total lack of effort or interest by certain players is how blame should be allocated. I couldn't give a shit if Vardy or whoever did or did not go to the owners, he (and others) played a much bigger part in Claudio leaving than a few words of criticism.

Yep

I'm tempted to believe the players didn't play to get him sacked, but lacked the motivation to play well.

what is that supposed to mean?

You've made a lot of posts smearing posters because they say what they think but not what they know.

This is a discussion forum and it's for posters to say what they think and disagree with whoever they like without some "holier than thou" poster continually knocking them.

The players have been shit because they lacked the motivation! my god man, they're paid a lot of money to play a game of football that I presume they love. What more motivation do they need? You can't really think they need their manager to baby them and say come on lads - do it for me or a pizza!

A cuddle and a reach around.

I have found the aftermath of Claudio's dismissal both sad and enlightening.

Sad because he is not only the nicest chap we have had as a manager; certainly for a long time, but also because he helped us to the greatest achievement in the club's history. Make no mistake, by the way, even were a manager to come in and win the title two, or three, times with Leicester (I am not suggesting that they will!), the first time is always the most significant.

Enlightening because, as human beings, we seem to need someone to blame for everything. We can't blame Claudio because he won us the Championship; we can't blame the owners because their money made it possible too, and we'll need them to pick up the pieces. Naturally, we the fans are totally blameless so, that just leaves the players. It's all their fault, we can hate them and everybody else is absolved.

Perhaps nobody has purposely scuppered the success story. The fans, for too long, were on the Champions tour. The players have failed to find the spark of last season, the manager failed to make changes in areas of the team that we can all see needed it (defence in particular). We did miss Kante, especially with Mendy picking up an injury in his first competitive game and referees tightened up on defenders using their arms.

We may not remain in the Premier League from here, whoever comes in but, how many people can put their hand on their heart and say that Claudio looked likely to resolve the problem?

I am tempted to believe that, when asked by their employers, everyone at the club gave honest answers to honest questions.

I'm tempted to believe that Claudio had a temper problem, as he has previously in his career, that exhibited itself as things got worse and his frustration increased.

I'm tempted to believe the players didn't play to get him sacked, but lacked the motivation to play well.

I'm tempted to believe that far too many of the fan base are currently in denial or anger phases. I am also tempted to think this hysteria has had its time now, it's getting really dull. Maybe this picture will help them identify their problems and move on...

Spot on.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but an interesting read that for me, just cements the opinion of that the owners have made the right call. Ranieri has arguably had great success off the back of someone else's great background work and slowly started dismantling it. I always thought Pearson's main weakness was his lack of tactical nouse, which Ranieri has. Arguably last season we basically hit the perfect marriage of Pearson's meticulous preparation and foundation building with Ranieri's tactical knowledge.

That wouldn't really make the situation any better though would it? Lacked the motivation? Starting a season as defending champions? Playing in front of passionate supporters? All those awards in the close season?

If that didn't motivate the poor dears then nothing would.

This is obviously not the celebration of the goal. It's in the aftermath when Claudio is trying to fire up the players running back to their own half. No chance that the bench would respond in such completely apathy to an important goal.

EDIT:

My other theory was that it was in response to their 2-0 goal as Musa looks like he had just come off. I couldn't find any video evidence of that though.
Yeah, when we scored Ranieri almost knocked his glasses off, this is after that IMO.

Actually, looking at the video, it's a bit of an obvious fake, the time is given as 89 minutes, Vardy scored in the 72nd minute. Fake news! I wonder if The Donald was behind it.

That's the same logic that sacked Ken Way.

Everyone doesn't have the ability to self-motivate, everybody doesn't share the same mindset - hence the job of a manager is to cater to these different needs. Ranieri didn't accept this, being stuck in a bygone age, and failed.

The "Snap out of it and pull yourself together" course at the school of Hard Knocks ought to be closed down by Ofsted.

I find it impossible to believe that 15 premier league players don't have the ability to self-motivate. I find it hard enough to believe that there is 1 player in the whole of the prem who hasn't self-motivated during his career. You don't get to the top of a sport or any other sector of life without that ability.

Getting there and staying there are two very different skills.

Funny, as that's what Ranieri thought too. He seems to have lost a number of jobs because of it!

Yep - when it's all going swimmingly well, there is less need for psychologists but when you're stuck in a rut and the doubt starts to creep in, tough - you've sacked the poor bugger!

And separates the talented from the great

More or less the main thrust of Sky's Sunday Supplement programme discussion on Claudio's sacking, where James Ducker (Telegraph) lamented how suddenly the will to win and keep winning (Roy Keane the role model here) had disappeared from the English game. Miraculous that our shower managed it for 15 months, really.

There's confidence as well as motivation. One can want to do well but just feel uncertain as to how.

Some ex-player remarked on one of those football talking heads programs that when you're confident you don't really think about it, you just do it. Maybe a couple of early season defeats sowed the seeds of doubt, then a change in tactics further eroded certainly. Suddenly players went from not thinking about how they played to over-thinking it. As Okazaki remarked, they no longer knew what they were supposed to be doing.

Let's overcomplicate football. We've all played.
