Just a quick one for all you stattos out there - I was just wondering who our most expensive signing is. Which player commanded the highest fee when they came to our club? I've been wracking my brains for all of 5 minutes and I can't think for the life of me who it might be? Akinbiyi perhaps?

Please enlighten me people.

It's shameful that we paid out our highest ever transfer fee for one of the worst players ever to pull on a City shirt. Such a monumental failure.

Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard that Taylor had the choice of signing either Akinbiyi for £5 million or Eidur Gudjohnsen for £4 million, and he chose Akinbiyi. If it's true, it could be one of the worst managerial decisions of all time!

Just to keep the thread going, who do you lot think is the one player that Leicester got most value for money from?

This is the bit where I usually say something like Martin Keown or Steve Howey. I'll answer this one seriously instead. In my time watching City, the best value for money has been Muzzy Izzet.

Gordon Banks cost £7k, Mark Wallington £35k .... probably in sheer value for money terms the best of those we paid a fee for.

In terms of turning a profit. Neil Lennon - cost £750k sold for £5.5m is on the face of it a great piece of business, though it's at least arguable that the disruption caused by the will-he, won't-he nature of him leaving, was as damaging to the club as signing duds like Ade.

IIRC our £1m+ record signings went
Draper - £1.2m
Elliott - £1.6m
Sinclair - £2m
Eadie - £3m
Akinbyi - £5.5m

So a couple of legends, a couple of what might have beens and ......errrr, Ade. But slightly in his defence as we got £2.2m for him from Palace, he was only marginally a bigger waste of money than Darren Eadie - a quite shocking error by MON to buy a player who had chronic injury problems for over two years before he came to us,

Ade Akin-bad-buy!

Heskey cost nothing and was sold for £11m. That is the best business I can think of. Although it did give Taylor the money to buy the rubbish he did.

Akinbiyi was never one of the worst City players. He was just out of his depth and then his confidence hit rock bottom (he had double figures first season). Plenty of poorer City players. Transfer flop? Yeh defo. Also, Gudjohnsen chose Chelsea over us.

The question was value for money. I would have to agree with with BM on Muzzy or maybe even a shout for Lennon.

I've got a dvd called Own Goals and Gaffs and there's a 20 minute period on it all about Akinbiyi. He was well out of his depth at that time, a good Division 1 player. I remember him scoring, can't remember who against, where he took his shirt off and ran round the pitch like the Incredible Hulk! Really felt for him at that time but he was still pants,

Akinbiyi was never a striker...i always thought we should have played him on the right,he had the pace +he was strong, and would of been a real handfull.

I really felt sorry for the lad he always tried his best...yet because we paid all that money...he was always the scapegoat.

There are plenty I would say were more of a waste of money than Ade, we spent plenty money on players who rarely played or were completely useless....Fenton, Wise, Matt Jones etc.

One player who was a British Record signing for City was Alan Clarke, he cost a mere £100,000 how times have changed.
