Suppose, my point was he can't be called a "great" acquisition when you have never seen him play, I suppose he will be good but I don't know. (I know you didn't say that).

In other words, you can say it's a good acquisition but not a great one if you haven't seen him play? Gotcha.:icon_bigg

Sergio Hellings was a player monitored for a long time like every other player, don't mean they are any good does it. You have never seen him play so you can't say anything yet about him.

Are you sure Hellings was monitored? Martin Allen's "monitoring" of Kaebi involved watching a DVD of him. His monitoring of Jimmy Neilson involved nobody from the club having seen him play.

Steve Beaglehole has actually worked with McGivern in the Northern Ireland Under 21 squad. My guess is that on this occasion the signing is as much due to Beaglehole as to Steve Walsh.
It is interesting that their were no rumours, no leaks and no speculation. All this is very professional. Nigel and his squad see a problem and quietly solve it. What a change from the days of Kaebi, Jimmy Neilson and Hellings.

He might be shit for all we know.

Be careful lads, you don't know what you're dealing with here, he'll beat you down with his logic

McGivern has been linked on message boards, phone ins etc since the start of pre-season, which led many to speculate Mattock was on his way.

I reckon this signing could relate to pacey right wingers which Berner was
replaced by Mattock when not coping a couple of times in League One

You don't read this forum then?

I'm all up for strengthening the squad, but do we really need aanother left back and is he going to get much game time? People have been singing Berners praises this year.

It's called providing competition for places. Berner only really has Chris Powell as his competitor for the left back position and, with all due respect to Powell, I doubt Pearson feels that comfortable playing him in league matches.

Happy with this signing... heard good things about him, and he's highly rated by Man City.

Provides an alternative to Berner, and we needed someone for LB as I don't think Powell will really be playing this year unless he has to.
