that has to be one of the best games ive ever been to :icon_sad:

Not so sure i could view it that way. Probaly the most depressed i've ever felt after a football game. Over the course of History that was Leicesters 6th consecutive Wembley defeat, at that time i hated the place and thought that we'd never win there. When we beat the shaggers a year later, i missed the game:icon_cry: . I had to wait for the Palace play-off game before enjoying that fantastic feeling of heading back up the motorway with promotion sealed and a piss up to look forward too.

The only game I've ever cried at. BL should have been sacked at that point as he'd failed for 2 seasons.

For the record, I cried at Wembley when we lost to Man City in 1969 - and I cried with delight when we beat Derby there in 1994.

I trust you are being facetious in saying that. There was certainly no demand for it at the time and, even with the benefit of hindsight, I fail to see that it would have been a good idea.

Brian Little took over the Pleat side which Gordon Lee had just managed to save from the jaws of the Third Division and developed it into a team which reached the brink of the Premiership. He started the steady progress which was to enable us to stay in the top flight for out longest spell in 20 years or so.

There's nothing wrong with steady progress; something that many of the present-day fans could learn from the fan of the 90s!

I Agree, but the money situation in the game (difference between prem and champ) has made progress harder to achieve. combine that with our financial problems resulting from administration, and the end of the parachute payment, and financially we are on a decline. a decline that only promotion would cure. i'm not saying we should get promoted this year, but i fear for the future a little.

CL is in a better posistion than MA was though, at least now he can go into the transfer market with some money, either from the Connolly sale, or from the sale of another asset (we have some now, didn't under MA) however i think the figures being mentioned for the likes of Williams and Joey are way over the mark.

Time will tell

Yeah I forgot CL had the parachute payment during the close season, MA didn't and didn't sign 12 players of whom most were shit.

Completely forgot that was wasteful of CL.

CL has spent more on transfer fees. Connolly for 250k was MA only signing with a fee wasn't he?

CL has payed a fee for almost all of his i think.

I wasn't critisising anybody btw!

Williams was something like £400,000 wasn't he ? Canero and Morris £125,000 each ? I thought Connolly was half a million ?

Connolly - £500k, Williams £500k +, Canero £250k, Morris £120k + the following monies spent on signing on fees and wages:

Jason Wilcox, Leeds F/T
Martin Keown, Arsenal F/T
Nathan Blake, Wolves F/T
Dion Dublin, Aston V F/T
Danny Tiatto, Man City F/T
Joey Gudjonsson, Wolves F/T
Scot Gemmill, Everton F/T
Chris Makin, Ipswich F/T

Hardly awe inspiring work with hindsight, thats alot of the budget spent on aging crap.

Connolly cost £500,000
Canero cost £250,000
Lee Morris cost £120,000
Gareth Williams cost £500,000

All of these were MA's signings.

:018:

Nominal fees (nearly nothing!)
Alan Maybury
Mark DeVries

Nothing:
Patrick Kisnorbo
Paul Henderson
Momo Sylla
Rab Douglas

Steven Hughes and Patrick McCarthy together cost less than Peter Canero.

Elvis and Peter Gilbert together were cheaper than Gareth Williams - and despite the apparent failure of the latter, I think it was money better spent than it was on Williams.

Iain Hume cost the same as David Connolly but saved a packet on wages.

Now tell me again about CL paying more on transfer fees.

why the competition? so i was mistaken, there are more important things in life.

sory faw de speling mista.

just for the sake of accuracy..

100k for McCarthy
initial 100k for Hughes
Gerbrand - undisclosed

Gilbert was 200k hammond 350k = 550k

And for the sake of completeness, Steve Howey also cost MA an undisclosed fee, which seems to cancel out CL's Gerrband. :icon_conf

Hammond's initial fee was £225,000 and has yet to cost us any more than this.

"Why the competition?" You started it and several people have disagreed with you. And as for "more important things in life", you're obviously not familiar with the tenet of Bill Shankly.

I'm sorry. I thought you wrote "Connolly for 250k was MA only signing with a fee" and "CL has payed a fee for almost all of his".

My mistake. It must have been another Feriol.

who did? dunc?

where did i say MA didn't have a parachute payment? and where did i suggest any critism of CL in the transfer market?

i admitted the mistake. and why does that start a competition with you?

for the record i didn't include morris and canero because we were in the premiership then. and the howey signing for that matter.

also for the record you cut a bit off my connolly statement!

I was of three people who commented on what you had written, yet I am only the only one who is being asked about this imaginary competition.

I don't know what the relevance of our then-Premiership status has to the exclusion of Morris and Canero. Please don't bother to tell me.

The only bit of your statement on Connolly that I didn't quote was the bit where you seemed to make it into a rhetorical question. The statement was in any case incorrect.

If you don't like to be corrected either don't write falsehoods or don't write at all, because you are sure to have your mistakes pointed out.

The statement was rhetorical in your mind perhaps. highland suggested the figure was wrong so i tried to check, read my posts. i will take your word on the 500k. i admitted to forgetting williams.

my opening post, refered to the difference in finance between the premiership and the championship, so the premiership signings have no impact in my comparison with MA and CL. (I'm posting this for my own satisfaction)

i don't mind being corrected. it was your statement.....

Now tell me again about CL paying more on transfer fees.

at the end of the corrections that i object too. if you get such a big ego boost from correcting people on forums, then by all means continue, but do you have to twist my comments, cut quotes, and try to put me down by doing it?
