I was writing my response when Highland's and Dunc's appeared. I had not seen them or your subsequent response to Highland's by the time I posted. I can understand that my response might have seemed heavy coming on top of theirs.

I apologise for cutting words of yours which seemed insignificant to the sense of what you had to say (possibly insignificant in my mind only).

I'm sorry if you think that my remarks are designed to "put you down". They most certainly are not! My "tell me again" is just my piss-taking nature which I would display in person and which perhaps does not come across too well in print. As for the "big ego boost"? Ha! I get more of an ego boost when I feed my dogs - at least they appreciate me!

I too apologise, for taking this out of proportion.

the significance of making the statement with a question was to indicate that i was by no means sure, and to invite correction.

Sorry for the statement about an 'ego boost', at the time i was trying to respond in the same manner that i 'thought' you were displaying.

For the record, you are appreciated, your knowledge and research shared on my behalf in a recent thread, (sorry cant remember which) i cite as an example.

appologies too, to the other members of this forum for ruining this thread. perhaps a moderator could delete some of the posts?

Highland

I'm a little disappointed that we don't seem to have had a disagreement yet.

Would you like to be next?

For the record, I cried at Wembley when we lost to Man City in 1969 - and I cried with delight when we beat Derby there in 1994.

I trust you are being facetious in saying that. There was certainly no demand for it at the time and, even with the benefit of hindsight, I fail to see that it would have been a good idea.

Brian Little took over the Pleat side which Gordon Lee had just managed to save from the jaws of the Third Division and developed it into a team which reached the brink of the Premiership. He started the steady progress which was to enable us to stay in the top flight for out longest spell in 20 years or so.

There's nothing wrong with steady progress; something that many of the present-day fans could learn from the fan of the 90s!
so is cl the new pleat?:102: (im only joking before you all go ape shit)

No, Pleat is the old Micky Adams!

pleat never got us promoted ;)

He wasn't part of a management team that got us relegated twice either.

how can you blame adams for the work of peter taylor:confused: talk about talking crap!

I didn't. But if you are giving him credit for the promotion, some criticism has also got to come his way for the second relegation. Bryan Hamilton didn't give David Pleat a particularly good start either.

I don't think there is any need for the gratuitous insult - I do think that such takes some of the fun out of contributing. This 'who is the old/new somebody else' came as far as I am concerned as a bit of fun after my suggesting that Brian Little was good for the club in that he redeveloped it. I didn't really understand why you should think that this meant that I was comparing Levein with Pleat and gave what I thought was a better comparison. It is true that Pleat never got us promoted, but it is also true that Adams was our manager when we were twice relegated.

I believe that Craig Levein is better for the club than Micky Adams ever was. If you believe that I am talking crap, I would prefer you to find some other words to tell me so.

right first things first boc calm down hold your horses your taking me too seriously-when i compared levein to pleat i was joking-i even said so in tiny little white writing ;). I just felt you were being harsh on adams by saying he got the club relegated twice-he was only really in charge for two games. granted he got us relegated the other year-but what else was the man meant to do on shoe string he did his best-the wheels really fell off during the start off last season, but does that warrant him to be labelled the new dp?

Don't worry, I'm calm. Why does anybody ever think differently? The next time I take anything at all seriously will be the first time. I have spent my whole life either taking the piss or having the piss taken out of me.

You did? It came out in bloody great BLOCK CAPITALS in double bold in my browser!!

I know it was a joke. That's why I joked back about Adams being the new Pleat.

You must have missed my "part of a management team" bit. Bassett was the bloke that really took us down - if Adams could bring us back up the following season in much the same conditions that Harry had, then Harry should have been able to keep us up - and NO, I am not saying all the fault was Harry's either.

No, but if you had realised that I was joking in the same way that you were joking about DP being the old CL ... ?
