You seem to spend more time in Kent than I do in Leicestershire. And what's this with zoos? I've seen other pictures of yours from Howlett's before.

It's a strange one; I like to see animals in their natural habitat, which is why I don't like the idea of pets. In principle, I don't like zoos, but places like Howletts, Port Lympne, Monkey World, Twycross etc, do a lot of work with endangered species, and try to make the lives of their animals as 'normal' as they can. Monkey World, for one, rescue apes that have been taken from the wild as babies, and have suffered abuse at worst, or at least inappropriate treatment, making it virtually impossible to integrate them into the wild again.

Visiting these places helps them to keep up the good work.

Plus the animals do really funny things!

I've never been to the other places you've listed, but Twycross must've changed a hell of a lot in the last few years if they're offering anything approaching 'normal' conditions for the animals that are caged there.
I thought it was one of the most disgusting animal prisons that I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing, it was a ****ing disgrace.

Monkey World is an amazing place. The work that they do there is fantastic.

Twycross has improved. It's not as good as the others, but the work that they are doing is the reason that I put it in there.

I've always had my doubts about zoos and anywhere that keeps animals, but likewise, places I've been to like Marwell in Hampshire (I think) and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum here in Tucson are doing fabulous work that otherwise wouldn't be done if there were no animals for us to go and gawk at. So broadly I have to be in favour, but it's a close call.

Catching up from April... I spent about five hours trying to get photos pf migrating swallows with a surprising amount of success. I'm well pleased with these...

This is one my best ever photos, when you consider the subject which is bloody hard to get a photo of. It's a Violet-green Swallow. You rarely get to see them in good enough light to see the green, let alone the violet.

And the last ones for now, I promise. Some scenery in central and northern Arizona.
