Speculation The annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Summer 2012 rumours thread

It implies nothing of the sort - go back and re-read the posts and see if you can fathom it out.

I have no wish or desire to do that though as I'm fairly sure I know what I read. Perhaps you could be so kind as to explain your post further as TOF's general post, directed at no one in particular, seemed to strike a nerve with you.

I honestly believe we can challenge for play-offs or beyond if we bulk up on the wings. Marshall will be a fine player for us next season but Dyer and Gallagher, on the other hand, are not good enough to start on a weekly basis. A bit more depth in that area and we may see a much brighter outlook.

Elsewhere we look reasonably well-equipped to at least make a challenge for the play-offs. We were far from spectacular last season and could have made them if we hadn't ended the season so poorly.

I am completely with you on all of that. Wingers/wide midfielders (except Marshall) are what is lacking in my mind. Very confident with Kasper in goal and Beckford and Nugent up front.

To win the league the defence and centre of midfield maybe need another good signing in each, but it's not a million miles away.

One central defender, one central midfielder and one winger. We could have a chance. As we are I think we will be fumbling around in mid table for most of the season. Though fumbling can be good fun!

Well, we've just signed a winger, so only two to go...

Have you seen Waghorn play recently? In the first 2 preseason games he has been beyond bad (obviously that is my opinion), he's not come close to having a decent shot unless you class 20 yards over the bar as a shot.

Thought he hit the post in the first game?

You would be able to answer this one yourself as well if you could be bothered to read.

Reading weren't exceptional, neither were West Ham.

I am surprised to read that: how many games did Reading win on the trot whilst we struggled to the occasional two? As to WHU, they were exceptional, in a different way. They played some awful games, but always came good when it was necessary.

Reading had a superb team; agreed, without stars and West Ham had the star players, who turned it on - just enough!

I think you clearly do need to reread the thread. Perhaps your comprehension skillz aren't as finely honed as you think?

If you are judging a team as being exceptional based purely on how they did (which makes sense) then how do you know we won't be exceptional this season? If you are judging purely on the players' reputation then my original point stands.

Any one of 20 teams could easily win promotion from this league. We clearly have one of the better squads and, with the nature of the teams that have come down, there really aren't any stand out teams that will walk away with the title.

On paper, we should be comfortably top half and definitely pushing for the play-offs.

And anyone that thinks that we were better off with the method of signing and management that Sven adopted is clearly wrong, imho.

There are two points that I would raise with this post: firstly, you say we clearly have one of the better squads. On what do you base that opinion?

Secondly, your final view seems to be, 'Sven was wrong, therefore, what we are doing now must be correct': if beating your children is wrong, that does not make shooting them right.

I do agree that we will probably finish in the top half of the table. I just think that BOTH Nigel and Sven have spent enough money that we should be aiming a lot higher.

How exactly have you made that leap? Do you always just read what you want to see?

In stead of firing off an insult, why not enlighten me with your wise reading of the statement?

Insult??? Seriously, what the actual ****? You genuinely do read whatever you want to see, don't you?

It's an opinion.

Which is shared by the bookmakers.

They are two completely separate events.

Sven *was* wrong. Our performances were poor. Our wage bill was spiralling out of control, and we had an ever increasing list of players being signed who never played.

I think that NP is moving in the right direction. He's signing the correct type of players, and I trust in his management of the club.

Just heard that Beckford's situation is all down to wages, which is what I guess we all thought anyway. I guess FFP is having an impact.
