Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

I don't think this sale indicates a lack of ambition, that we held out for an inflated (let's be honest) price I think it's an indication that we are not a selling club.

That players want to move to higher paying clubs, that may be seen as more likely to win things is just a realistic impression of where we are as a club, we have to prove we are better before anyone will believe we are better, and if we can restrict our sales to one key player per season, for more than they are worth then we are doing well IMO.

Also Signings like Tielemans will only be possible if they feel they won't be held back if they do well.

I am led to believe that a deal was already agreed for Dunk a little while ago if Maguire were to leave, so that should be sorted quickly. He doesn't strike me as the best option, but as with Maguire he may improve drastically coming into a better team.

Maguire will be missed, but I don't think his sale alters our ambitions.

Last player to leave City for Man U?

Can’t recall anyone since I started following us in the 80s but might be missing someone obvious!

Found a list of recent transfers between us and other than loans for Lingaard Cleverley etc most recent permanent moves are

De Laet
Drinkwater
Brian Carey (!)
Colin Gibson

Still not agreed personal terms, and he has to pass a medical. BR confirmed tonight that the clubs have agreed a fee.
Formalities.

Quote from the Times reporter story on Maguire: “Many Leicester players are thought to have sympathised with Maguire’s plight and felt that the club had placed an unrealistic price tag on his head”.

Not that unrealistic, given that Man U have paid it. But still, surely a nonsense sentence.

Glyn agreed the point everyone is missing is that Klopp set the bar and it was always going to get higher. I think what rankles with most of the pundits both ex manager/players and media is that it is little old Leicester. Not sure how Man Utd will do this season I think they still ave massive issues at the back.

I don't think Dunk will be a bad addition should he be the replacement. I'd prefer Ake or Tarkowski but Dunk has done very well for Brighton in the PL and will lead the with Evans pretty well. We will have to adapt to a different style whoever comes in and we will have to find the link that Maguire offered to bridge the gap between defence and midfield.

Contrary to what I wrote earlier, I suppose I am a bit more optimistic of the money being spent more wisely under Rodgers lf I'm honest, especially given the last couple of deals. At least it makes for a very interesting few days ahead. I really do need to stop being a miserable old bastard.

I think I'd prefer Kabesele from Watford if we are going after a replacement. Always impressed by him when weve played them and would add some pace.

If we feel the need for another central defender, why not just sign Cahill for a year?

He'd give us insurance against the things people seem to be bothered about without us having to waste millions on someone overpriced and, ultimately, probably unnecessary.

The three names being linked to us will be hugely more expensive than they merit being.

I want us to be spending our money on the other end of the pitch.
