One a year ain't bad. If fact, selling to reinvest is often the only way to genuinely grow a team nowadays.
Kante - cost £5.6m - sold £30m - profit £24.6m
Drinkwater - cost £1m - sold £35m - profit £34m
Mahrez - cost £0.4m - sold £60m - profit £59.6m
Maguire - cost £17m - sold £85m - profit £57.8m (less £10,2m extra to Hull)
Four players cost £24m - sold for £210m - profit £175,8m
Yeah, generating money, that’s what it’s all about

Not to disappointed to lose Maguire but its more the sign it shows to everyone else that we will sell to the bigger boys.
It also shows players that if they join us they won’t be stuck here forever, and can use as a stepping stone to greater things.
Ta ra.
Only CB worth signing in the PL for us would be Ake.

Madders and Tielemans will be off before this time next year now.

Precisely - wouldn't it be better to achieve greater things with us??
Also, if we were serious about breaking into the top 6, we shouldn't be selling a player to the easiest target for that, even more so when they are up shit Street for CBs.
We'll be were Southampton are before you know it.
End of the day it's hard when the top clubs are coming in for your players but it does make me question the allure of Man U. They're one of the biggest clubs in the world undoubtedly due to what Fergie achieved with them, so the main reason for going there is a greater chance at silverware. Can you really say that about Man U right now? I'm not so sure...
I'm sad to see Harry go but we can at least be happy that we pulled their pants down on the deal. Now the question is will we and who will we try and replace with? I think we need to and I'd like to see someone bought in who is a bit more solid and dependable (a fighter like Van Dijk) and has a presence at the back rather than someone famed for his passing/ball control qualities.
Maguire would have been better off IMO staying here and waiting for Man City who I expect would happily have waited til next summer in the hope they could snap him up cheaper... He'd have suited them better but his chances of ever playing for them have surely now gone down the shitter.
Alternatively we'll be like Tottenham after they sold Gareth Bale for ridiculous money. We'll be were Southampton are before you know it.
