Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded summer 2020 rumours thread

Winning the Europa League may well be our best chance of being in next year's Champions League.
Or doesn't that happen any more?
it does happen, that's why we should take it very seriously, play Nacho in the post Europa games if need be but Vardy should play in the Europa

knowing our luck. Man City will get knocked out of champs league just to come in to the quarter finals of another cup and beat us on penalties....

Interesting we dismissed loan offers.

Maybe he will be brought back in after all after we couldn't bring in a striker.

Did we?

He could still go to Sporting, but there was a report from a Portuguese journalist earlier today that he'd turned them down due to wages.
I still find it absurd that footballers will claim they’re totally stuck at a club and hate it, but then happily sit on the bench because they might have to take a pay cut elsewhere.

we're only going to be allowed a 24 man squad in the Europa League as we only have 3 club trained players (Barnes, Choudhury & Dewsbury-Hall - Luke Thomas is young enough he doesn't need to be) that will likely be named on it so will have to leave a space free due to UEFA regulations

anyway back on the subject of potential transfers, the domestic window is still open for another week or so closing at 5pm on 16th October

Or we could have the full 25 by including one of the other club trained players, like Muskwe.

Does anyone know when the squad lists are announced?

in the next week or so you would imagine and yes someone like Muskwe could have been included, I hope one has, but was just going off of the current first team squad on the website

The Mercury were speculating that Wes wouldn't be included, neither would Benkovic or Matty James and even Wilfred Ndidi, as he is likely to miss the entire group stage so would be a waste of a spot and can be added before the knockout phase.

The time for business is over. Now it’s time for decisions.

The international transfer window is shut and while they can still sign players from the EFL, Leicester City are unlikely to further bolster their squad, particularly as they now have to think about who makes the cut for the Europa League.

At midnight on Tuesday, only 25 hours after the closure of the transfer window, City have to name the players that will be registered in their squad for the European games, which start in just over a fortnight’s time with a home clash against Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk.

The issue for City is that they have too many players. Of those given a squad number, City have 28 who would need to be registered on List A. However, the maximum they would be allowed to register is 24.

A squad of 25 is allowed, but four of those have to be club-trained players, of which City only have three in Harvey Barnes, Hamza Choudhury, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. As such, they lose their right to one of the spots.. If City choose not to register Dewsbury-Hall because they intend to send him out on loan, then they will only be allowed to name a squad of 23.

To bring their number down from 28 to 24, City have to omit four players, and two are likely to Filip Benkovic and Matty James. The pair could leave on loan to an EFL club before the domestic deadline on October 16.

Wilfred Ndidi could be another to miss out, due to his injury. The Nigerian midfielder is not expected to fully recover from his groin issue until close to Christmas, by which time all six of the group games will have been played. If City reach the knockout stages, they can edit their squad and then include a hopefully fully-fit Ndidi.

That would leave one more player to exclude. Ricardo Pereira is not due to be fit until the end of October or beginning of November, and so could miss out on half of the group fixtures.

If Daniel Amartey’s hamstring issue proves serious, he could be left out for a similar reason.

Demarai Gray has not been included in any of the Premier League matchday squads yet, so could be another candidate, while Wesley Fofana’s arrival may limit the need to include captain Wes Morgan in the squad.

All three senior goalkeepers are likely to be included, in case of injury.

Left-back Luke Thomas, as a club-trained player below the age of 21, can be registered on List B, which can include an unlimited number of players.

City’s 28 senior players are below.

Goalkeepers: Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Ward, Eldin Jakupovic

Full-backs: Ricardo Pereira, James Justin, Timothy Castagne, Christian Fuchs

Centre-backs: Wes Morgan, Daniel Amartey, Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, Filip Benkovic, Wesley Fofana

Central midfielders: Matty James, Papy Mendy, Wilfred Ndidi, Hamza Choudhury, James Maddison, Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Wingers: Marc Albrighton, Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes, Ayoze Perez, Cengiz Under

Strikers: Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho

Remember Shinji Kagawa?

The 31 year old is in advanced talks to join Leicester City on a free transfer after leaving Real Zaragoza this week.

I think Josh King would be a very good backup to Vardy. And could also play wide in a front three.

Or we could have the full 25 by including one of the other club trained players, like Muskwe.
