You can offer it, but it doesn't have to be taken. I doubt whether many players would choose to take this route and miss out tens of thousands of pounds.

Also, finding the cash to buy out the contracts of numerous players all at the same time, is a lot easier said than done and certainly a lot harder than paying it over a couple of calendar years or so.
Well you wouldn’t be missing out. If you had 3 years on a contract. I offer you 2 and you go find a new job some place else straight away on decent term you are actually significantly up.

Yeah but no but yeah but if they all have a good pre-season and get fully fit then we’re ok init.

If you find another team and if that team pay you anything like what you were getting paid. 'Ifs' however don't have any guarantees. It still doesn't solve the issue of us having to find the millions to do it in one fell swoop rather than over the length of a contract.

There's a very good set of reasons why clubs don't do this at all often.

Due to the fact that nobody wants the squad garbage we're touting around Europe, and we know that there are a bunch of players who could leave but don't want to because they'd lose money, The Athletic (Tanner) is now reporting that we may have to sell a player we want to keep in order to generate cash.

He names Castagne as the most likely to be sacrificed as there is unnamed interest, but also throws out Barnes and Maddison if the offer is big enough.

Tick, tock. It feels like we're entering the panic phase of the summer.

Selling Cas to get a good right winger is the only way this makes any sense, we have cover at rightback.

Didn't we try him at RW with Ricardo behind him (thought was notable as it seems more natural to swap them over) - maybe that would be worth perservering with

We don't need 3 x right backs though so it does make a bit of sense if one was to go and Timmy probably is the logical one - Ricardo has recently signed a contract and Justin has just got involved with the England set up.

It would be a shame to see him go though as he is great player and we have far worse but needs must and all that.

I'm sure some will say Timmy or Justin can play left back but being able to play in a position is different to specialising in one, especially when you have to play with your weaker foot.

FFS, if we sell Maddison to buy 2-3 players of recent calibre then we really have lost the plot.

No way that happens. Surely?
This is the point I’ve been making. Plenty of quality currently in the squad. No need to make changes for changes sake.

The start of last season , we had injuries and players returning from injuries, and never really got going with a settled team
This season the only bad injury is Wilf, so we should be on a better footing even without any additions

It's not that Justin can play LB, it's that he is much, much better there. He's an excellent LB and had proved this time and time again. Every single time he's played on the right he's been prone to a **** up or three. On the left, he's been, on the whole, exceptional. He must be our first choice LB which means selling Castagne would be ****ing ludicrous.

I’m saying it. I blame Rodgers entirely. He and his buddy Congerton bought a right bunch of duffers we are stuck with and worst of all, I can’t see him signing anyone better if he was given more money.
Justin, Fofana, Castagne..... yeah, dreadful.
