We have four high quality full backs. Last area we need to be concerned with.

We have three high quality right backs. We have no quality left back.

Thomas is not kicking on. He's almost up to 60 appearances for us now and he cannot be trusted.

In the first half against Palace, he was terrible. Losing possession, being caught the wrong side of his man, and so on. He improved second half but that's what you get with Thomas. Some positive spells where you think that he could be really good. It's always followed up with garbage though.

He isn't 21 until June though so he has a chance to make it with us. However, we've not looked after him very well. He's in and out of the team and has never learnt the position properly. He should have spent this season at a top end Championship side on loan. Then we'd see whether he can be our long term left back or not.

All three of our right backs can play left back. All three of them are better on the right though.

Castagne is currently the chosen one for the left but he's spoken out about not enjoying the position and thinks it's not his best. We've all seen him have some stinkers on the left.

Ricardo has the most experience playing on the left but always looks wrong there.

Justin looked great for six months last season there but seems to be playing right side now so BR can't see him as the best option there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we messed it up in summer 2020 when we sold a very good left back and replaced him with a good right back. Ever since, we've been a confused mess.

We disagree about Thomas. 2 years younger than KDH.

Thomas has a lot more experience in the side than Dewsbury-Hall. Thomas and Justin have played about the same number of times for us.

He was promoted straight into the first team through necessity and I think we'd all agree that he has bailed us out by being available and filling in repeatedly over the last couple of years.

He isn't good enough though. Not yet anyway. He wouldn't be first choice left back for any PL side. And if BR thought he was ready or good enough, he wouldn't have signed Bertrand.

Think you are being very harsh on young Luke.

Aye. He's got a good engine. Sometimes there's some confusion and delay about his play but I think he's decent enough.

Ted bought Bertrand because he knows him. The lad's been shite for what seems like decades or centuries. He was a promising youngster for about 20 of those years. I expect he'll probably get a coaching role once he retires.

But KDH wasn't anywhere near the first team 2 years ago.

It's not to say that Thomas won't turn into a top quality player as we have seen him put in some very good performances, but we have also seen him get dominated and bullied as many, if not more times.

He's clearly not ready yet, certainly not for a team with CL aspirations, and a full season at a lower lever would have been much more beneficial for him.

And whilst the other 3 full backs are very good, they are all right footed - how many top teams play with inverted full backs as such?

Left back may not be top priority, but it certainly wouldn't make us any weaker.

Despite what many on here proclaim, we have no way improved in that area since we sold Chilwell.

We sold a very good left back who, for the last 6 months, wasn't very good for us.

Thomas is an excellent prospect and we are quite lucky to have him. That's what I think, and I'm sticking with it.
Yep, a very good defender. When the sum of the parts is low the overall is low.

He will thrive and make it.

In today's market that's pretty reasonably priced to be fair. He offers something different to Barnes in the same position (who is out of form anyway and needs competition), so I think this is decent business.

Being an excellent prospect is not the same as being good enough already.

No one is doubting that he has the potential to be a top player, but he isn't one now.

He will only become a top player by playing 1st team football either at Leicester or on loan
