Last week Ryanair had Stockholm - Gatwick, Thursday to Tuesday in November, for 0.02 SEK - that's £0.0017. Value for money that is.

But as Nottingham said, you need a Visa Electron to avoid the credit card charges.

Can't you pay by normal debit card?

Yes, but they charge (I think) £10 per passenger EACH WAY. The Electron card avoids all types of card charges.

The credit/debit card charge is £5 each way. There is an additional charge of £5 each way for compulsory online check-in (no check-in at the airport from next month. Then another £10 each for taking a bag.

And if you are going to be away for more than 14 days, you're going to have to find a computer and printer that you can use while you're abroad to check-in for your return flights.

The 'no charge for using an Electron card' is a limited offer so that they can get round the scam of advertising cheap prices that aren't really cheap. The fact that they are available to some makes it OK in law - apparently!

This isn't entirely correct. If you book a outbound and return flight on the same booking you only get one confirmation number. You are able to check in for the 'both' flights from 15 days and upto 4 hours before the first flight.

I found this out last week, when I checked in for my flight. I checked in last Wednesday (2nd Sept) for my flight next Wednesday (16th Sept) and was also able to check in for my return flight on Saturday (19th Sept)

It's a pity that they don't make that clear on their website - though where the sheisters would find room amongst all other of their terms and conditions is anybody's guess.

I've got a post office electron card for precisely that reason, because ryanair fly to an airport I go to quite frequently and I resent paying their charges.

I have found another way of avoiding Ryanair credit/debit card charges if you haven't got an electron card.........

I accept donations via paypal for the information.

But you can get quite a hefty bag on as hand luggage (if you can find room in the overheads for it!)

10kg is not hefty.

Not any more you can't. I have seen people refused bags into the aircraft and had to pay silly money to get it put in the hold. They are very strict on size and weight.

The size of the bag (56cm x 45cm x 25cm), is set by the Dept of Transport, not the airline.

Well I am just about to book a flight to Turin for a Wednesday night match
against Sampdoria at the end of October £5 each way inc taxes....:038::038::038::038:

Ryanair 'first bag charge' goes up £10 to £30 per flight next month.

You failed to mention this is the 'at airport' price. Also any flights booked prior to 1st October will be able to take advantage of the current price (£10 each way for a 15kg allowance)

The online price is £15 per flight, so it will be increasing from £20 per return trip to £30.

As you know I fly with them regular, and the carry on baggage allowance has never caused me a problem.

I've had a look at a couple of the other budget airlines to compare costs;

Easyjet charge £16 for a checked in bag booked online (5kg more allowance) - but on another note if you wish to buy Speedy Boarding with Easyjet this will cost you £8 more than Ryanair.

BmiBaby charge £21.98 for a checked in bag booked online (3kg more allowance) - However BmiBaby don't give you the option to then check in online, so you will have to queue at the airport. (And pay £10 for doing so)

To look at a comparison, I am going to price up a flight from East Midlands to Malaga with Ryanair, Easyjet and BmiBaby. I am going to request 1 piece of luggage on each flight, with priority/speeding boarding. I will also request payment with a Visa Debit card (NOT Electron). I will also select Ryanair flights that are not on offer with free taxes etc to make it as fair as possible.

Dates of travel: Fri 16th Oct - Tues 20th Oct

Ryanair: £121.71
Easyjet: £112.80
BmiBaby: £180.44 (*BmiBaby do not offer priority boarding, their equivalent is pre booked seat @ £7.99 each way)

So EasyJet is approx £9 cheaper compared to the next cheapest (Ryanair) on the above options. You will however have to queue to check in for the Easyjet flight. Had I compared a like for like with one of Ryanair's offer flights, Ryanair would have been approx £40 cheaper than Easyjet and over £100 cheaper than Bmibaby.
