Reports now saying we've set our asking price at £70m.

If that's true (big IF) then I'd expect this to happen... If they've already gone to £59m apparently then £70m isn't too far for them to go I would've thought.
Only 2 x Danny Drinkwaters?

We should hold out for £80m at least.

Tbh, I'm very surprised that ManCity don't have adequate cover for Sane in their squad already. Maybe they were thinking of Mahrez even before the injury to Sane. Still, whatever, I reckon Mahrez will have his work cut out to establish himself there and I'd wish him all the best.

I'm reminded of all those pundits that wanted to see Steve Guppy play for England. Then he did. Then it kinda went quiet.

I would accept £75m and Bernado Silva on loan to the end of the season.

I worry about Riyad's effort through to the end of the season if we keep hold of him and would prefer to remember the Riyad of the first half of this season and the title winning season.

I also think Bernardo Silva is potentially a really good player.

I was thinking a straight swap for Sane.

According to a few sources, they'd actually make an enquiry about him earlier in the window too. Imagine the Sane injury may have just been the encouragement they needed to make that interest more serious.

I think if Mahrez went to Man City and to work under Pep, he'd look incredible in their team.

Weirdly, I'd rather he went to Man City than any of the other English clubs... Would hate to see him at Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Utd.
If he's going to leave, I'd still rather he went abroad, but Man City would be my preferred destination for him if he's going to stay in this country.

I just hope whoever's in charge of player recruitment now was up all night working extremely hard to investigate potential replacements from a shortlist you'd hope we already had stored away for this occasion... And I hope that list doesn't have Andros bloody Townsend on it.

Can't blame Man City for offering much lower than the asking price. His mind is made up and should we force him to stay again we'll likely have cheery Mahrez of 16/17 back. If he's gone anyway then we're more likely to accept less. Surprised we've not been linked with a replacement though as we've had a year and a half to prepare for this.

I think he would have to greatly improve his movement off the ball to be a regular for them, but with the right coaching he could do well.

I doubt we will replace him this window. Better value to be had in the summer and I actually think we will do okay with what we have.

I wouldn’t blame him for going there. It just sucks that we’ll lose our best player to a club that will squirrel him away for two and a half seasons in case case someone gets injured and then chuck him on the scrap heap.

I do find it strange that people still think that Man City are spunking £60 odd million to cover Sane for a few weeks

Even heard some brilliant pundit saying what would Mahrez do when Sane comes back to fitness.

As if this is not the utter genius PFA player of the year from 15/16, and potentially a much better player in Man City's team that Sane could ever be.

From the Guardian:

Leicester City are bracing themselves for another complicated and fraught deadline day, with Manchester City’s pursuit of Riyad Mahrez threatening to cause no end of problems. Mahrez has submitted a transfer request and is determined to join City. He has been restless at Leicester for a long time – he spent the previous deadline day at an airport and this is the second transfer request he has handed in at the club.

Leicester, however, are unhappy with City’s decision to make a move for Mahrez so late in the window and for starting the conversation over the fee at such a low level. It is understood that £45m was the first figure mentioned. Needless to say, it was dismissed out of hand. City are prepared to pay more for Mahrez but the big question is whether they will get close to Leicester’s valuation, which is likely to be north of £60m. Leicester point to the fees that have been paid elsewhere in this window – not least in relation to Coutinho and Van Dijk – to justify that sort of price tag.

From Leicester’s point of view, there is an uncomfortable sense of deju vu about all of this, given that Danny Drinkwater was pushing for a move to Chelsea on deadline day in the summer. On that occasion Leicester had a replacement lined up in the form of Adrien Silva – albeit they failed to get the paperwork done in time. This time, however, there is no contingency plan in place for Mahrez’s departure, which is another reason why they are reluctant to do business. The fallout, however, could be interesting to say the least if Mahrez fails to get his move.

City should stay calm. Mahrez still has over two years on his contract. By today's standards he cost us virtually nothing.

Mahrez knows that if he spits his dummy out, big clubs will not come in for an inconsistent, temperamental player, and we then choose as to whether we just let him rot in the reserves, and we have had 2+ amazing years from him at a relatively small cost.

Maybe Gray and Diabate can between them bring some of his skills to the team, but they are currently a poor shadow of him.

Even as a luxury player, Mahrez is almost irreplaceable. Even if we got £100million for him, is there another 'Mahrez' out there to be bought as an immediate replacement?

The timing of the Man City bid is destructive towards LCFC and adds to the misery doled out by a contracted player who once again puts his boot into the club only this time on the eve of a crucial match day. It's a shame that players and an elite group of big city clubs have all the power now and are flaunting that power. Taking a wider view, we were asking for this problem by holding on to a deeply unhappy player and it would have been to have got rid before now.

He hasn't looked deeply unhappy this season.

By holding on to him we've had another half a good season from him, and we'll end up with a much higher transfer fee than if we'd sold him in the last window, or a year ago.

Not a single word of that makes any sense whatsoever.

"Really good money" When VVD was 75m? And Mahrez has won the league? And he was PFA player of the year? **** off.
"What really are they going for?" Urrrr... Europe league Qualification? FA Cup? We also kind of won the league from nowhere.

Alan Smith - IMO - is making himself look a real dick with these thoughts.

Mahrez has let everyone down yet again.

The more I think about it the more I believe he's best off out of here.

Not training, not playing, well **** off then you child.
