The Mahrez Saga

If LCFC want to put this to bed, why do they not simply put out a statement saying ‘This club will not consider any bids for Mahrez below £100million, so do not waste your fax or email or our time on any smaller bid”.

Given the stupid fees kicking about I wouldn't name a figure. Just say they're well off. Dick Van Dyke was £75m so **** knows what Mahrez's valuation would be from us or city, their valuation could end up being more than we quote.

Personally I'll be glad when he finally ****s off. All this sulking and not being where he should be is getting boring and most unsettling for the whole club. Get the money for him and let him go. If he doesn't like being a big fish in a small pond, let him try the opposite. And meanwhile we can get on with the rest of our lives.

Guardiola could not have coached Leicester to the title in the same way Ranieri did. We would have lost all our one nils 3-2 with Huth and Morgan constantly exposed.
He can only manage if every player is a world beater. So he's strangely just as limited tactically as allardyce or pulls.

That by the way is what about grapes sound like.

We don't have to sell. We don't need to sell. We don't want to sell. If we do sell therefore, it will be through our own idiotic stupidity. The club are doing the right thing so far by not engaging at all with any of this rubbish and they should continue this stance. Okay, so he may mope around the place for a bit but he will get over it. If he has missed training or refused to travel with the squad (and that's a big 'if'), fine him for being a twat and then get on with the rest of the season. He won't down tools - he'll still want his big move in the summer and that's not far away.

Agreed. All about the sponds for me like.

Let him go in the summer. Selling him a day before the end of the window when we’re 7th and a Championship team away from the FA Cup quarter final would be ludicrous.

Saying that, I think his uplift in form is partly because he’s trying to play for a move, and if we do force him to stay his form will likely drop again.

The sooner they get rid of the January transfer window the better.

I won’t be “glad”, but I understand what you’re saying. Getting bored of it all now. It’s like a dark cloud hanging over us every transfer window.

The club can't afford to give in over Mahrez now. We'll soon be facing the same problem with Maguire and Ndidi so we need to show the big clubs we're not a soft touch.

£70m & Mangala, I have faith that Puel will build a side that can develop and grow without Mahrez. Will be a huge gap to fill but we have a fantastic squad and some real quality younger players who will have a chance to flourish in his absence. I will be gutted to see him leave but this is not the end of the road for LCFC but an opportunity for new beginnings.

The key is not to look soft regarding the valuations of our players.

Other than that I'll be glad when it's done with.

I’d rather just have the £70m thanks.

Blindingly obvious though as City Fan suggests that Mahrez has been playing for a move and he's been canny enough to play it smart to achieve his objective. Also Boc is correct in saying that this will hang like a cloud over the club until he goes. Unfortunately, there is a queue ready to take the same path. Best we can do is to try to up the market knowing we will go through the process all over again. To be honest I don't know whether or not we are a 'soft touch'. Let's hope we're not these days. But the history of the club in transfers of our best players is patchy. I can only think of the Davie Gibson case where the club appeared to stand firm......but in the majority of cases they've buckled fairly easily.

Remember when Schmeichel was interviewed about Mahrez. I think he mentioned something about Vichai being no pushover. I bet he doesn't go unless it is a ridiculous price £80 million+

Agreed, and why would we?

Part of what concerns me with the potential move is as well is that our history of investing big money into new players isn't exactly good!

I'd be worried about how we'd spend the £90m or whatever we got for him.
