the normal excess is £150, I had to double check the small print next to the 'accidental water damage' bit to see it's an extra £250:icon_eek:

Did I miss something? How was 'accidental water damage' caused? Have you driven your car into a river or summat

Traffic normally queues from the A426 down to Fosse Park during rush hour. Someone wanted to go to Agros during rush hour. I mocked him, but he was right. The 'bad weather' meant that the usual queues weren't there.

Not happy.

Apparently that's what it's classed as when talking about fixtures and fittings.

I have absolutely no prior understanding of making insurance claims or owt about the sort of damage a burst pipe/valve/whatever in the boiler can cause so I'm probably naively believing what I've been told by the person on t'other end of the phone and accepting it as gospel.

On the advice of the person who is coming out to inspect the water damage, I've had to cut away that section of the carpet and taken it up along with the underlay-whereas the woman at the insurance told me I had to leave the carpet where it was else I wouldn't be able to prove it was part of the stair/landing carpet and not a separate piece.
Good job I did cos the damp fron that section had started to creep up the carpet on the stairs.
But now I have bare concrete at my front door. :icon_sad: And all I can smell is wet plaster from the ceiling- I'm half expecting it to have fallen in when I get home from work one day!:icon_eek:

I dunno if I'll get quoted a fair price or if I'll be taken for a mug(the latter is most likely tbh!) I haven't a clue what's going on with it all! Money stuff is not summat i'm good with, I pay my bills and that's about it when it comes to financial bits and bobs!

Ah - for some reason, I thought you were talking about a car claim.

About 20 years ago, Mrs Boc had a pipe burst in the attic during freezing weather. Water poured through the ceilings for a whole day whilst she was at work. Insurance company told us to leave everything in situ, but then their assessor moaned at her because he said that the carpets and everything that retained water should have been removed as soon as possible.

She lost every ceiling but one, loads of plastering had to be redone and lots of furniture and other possessions had to be replaced. She was out of the house for about four months and when she got back in, she had to redecorate. Luckily the house next door was only occasionally used by 'weekenders' and they let her move into that.

The insurance company were very helpful. They paid for the lot with no quibble, even paid the neighbour for the use of his house. I understand that they're not as 'generous' now but I hope you can get it sorted with them. A lot seems to depend on the attitude of the assessor that they sent out to you; if they smell a rat, you could have problems but if he can see that you're an honest case, he will normally help your claim all he can.

fingers crossed for you :)

Ta.

Obviously not taking your claim too seriously, then.......

:icon_sad:
I'm not expecting to get much money back to repair/replace stuff tbh, I just dont' seem to have the sort of luck where things go right like that!

Building surveyor should've been coming to have a look at everything tomorrow but has re-arranged for Monday as well, so at least I'm only losing one days holibobs.

The taxi driver who promised to hand in my i-phone that fell out of my pocket in his cab on Friday night.

Not handed in as yet.
