ah the joys of doing Greek, Latin, French and of course English at Leicester Grammar School
if you try replacing it with a more regular verb, like carry it's obvious
"you have carried" not "you have carry"
"i carried" is the past tense
the past tense of "i run" is "i ran"
the errors creep in because run is irregular, i run, i ran (not runned) so you get the less erudite members of the northern wastelands saying something like
"you run a good race" after the race...
at the end of the day, languages are spoken not written and you could make a case for the pluperfect taking the irregular present tense at it makes sense when you hear it, but this wasn't the argument...
care to chip in theshites?
