Vardy doesn't exactly look the type that wouldn't act like a total chav on a night out. What a tosser though. Still, the media has a habit of blowing things out of all proportion and we don't know what happened or was said prior to this video.

Exactly, it's the same as calling somebody from Pakistan a Paki. How could anyone find that offensive?

It depends on the way the word is used though.
I'd never heard of 'Jap' being used as a term of abuse before. I'm not aware of anyone using the word 'Scot' to abuse people from Scotland, Aussie to abuse people from Australia etc.

Some people like to be 'offended', it gives them something to complain about.

Maybe the saddest thing is watching a footballer being flash in a casino.I cannot remember the percentage of Prem players who are bankrupt within 5 years of retiring from the game.

EPL footballer in a casino, I can't think of a better example for the old adage that it's easy to separate a fool from their money.

Just been reported on the 5 live programme although at least they reported it as Vardy apologises for racist......

My brother emigrated to Australia (admittedly about 30 years ago) and was astounded to see the sports page of the paper state something along the lines of "Pakis declare on 350 - 7". At the same time this was most certainly an offensive word in the UK but in Aus was being used in much the same way as Brit or Scot.
I agree with Jeff. Those Sun headlines show Jap is in use here in the UK as the shortened form of Japanese.
Racism is more about the intent and interpretation as the actual words used.
I have just pointed out to my Aussie sister-in-law that at 50 years old she is only 10 short of an Australian test innings. She called me a Pommie B*****d as usual....".I'm not offended.
Jamie Vardy is a good footballer, but is about as intelligent as my parrot. This gives him a limited vocabulary with which to express himself. I think he was being offensive and strayed inadvertently into all of this 'cos he's thick.

Bang on.

After a series of Kraut headlines in the English press, during the build up to a World Cup game, the Germans broadsheet Süddeutsche Zeitung consoled its readers by explaining that the Sun and other tabloids are "read by people who don't give a toss about who runs the country, as long as she has big breasts."

I find it surprising people are seriously suggesting they were unaware the word "Jap" is used as a derogatory term. It's been the case since World War II. After Japanese-American citizens were released from internment camps in the 1940s they found their properties vandalised with graffiti saying stuff like "Japs not welcome anymore".

It's a derogatory term and that's all it is.

The Sun also loves to refer to Argentinians as Argies. Don't they see the double standard at work here?

Most of us didn't grow up in post-war USA.
