I find it surprising people are seriously suggesting they were unaware the word "Jap" is used as a derogatory term. It's been the case since World War II. After Japanese-American citizens were released from internment camps in the 1940s they found their properties vandalised with graffiti saying stuff like "Japs not welcome anymore".

It's a derogatory term and that's all it is.

As I said, I would consider myself to be fairly aware of terms that are deemed unacceptable, but I am not aware of this one at all. That's not to say it isn't, and I don't come into contact with, or talk about Japanese people that much, so maybe this is why. Might I suggest that it isn't one of the better known unacceptable labels, despite your knowledge of it?

The Sun the shite rag that it is, use the term regularly as 'Miles Away' points out. They have simply used the footage of an angry Vardy whose was probably losing heavily at Poker, and then sensationalised it. As Lako said how did they get footage from inside the Casino? Somebody, obviously with access to the recordings has sold it to the Sun surely that's theft. It's certainly a clear breach of the confidentiality laws which govern gambling in Casinos. Political correctness has it's place but not here, Vardy has apologised for what he said, and that should be the end of the matter. The truth is we should never have heard about it.

More to the point how did the Scum get a copy of a security video from inside a casino?

There are very strict rules about cameras etc on the gambling floor, basically they are not allowed for security and privacy reasons. Obviously a security camera/video is acceptable but to release footage for public consumption identifying 'gamblers' who may wish to remain anonymous is totally against the very strict in-house rules.
