Exactly, this is a ridiculous (non) story. I would have thought that the Sun was about the last publication that wants to pillory a bloke for having loads of money but probably not being exactly a member of the intellectual elite. If Vardy is to be hammered for this rubbish then he will only be safe if escorted by a full time minder.

I can see the sense in the politics of giving an apology just to draw a line...but in reality its a nothing incident.

It is interesting that we don't want to write Ni**er in full but everyone, including the Daily Express and Sun, is happy to write 'Jap'.

Why aren't people writing J*p ?

I never before had considered 'Jap' to be offensive.

Then again, I'd never have shouted it at anyone no matter what the circumstances. It just isn't an expression that the vast majority of people would ever use.

Surely, an awful lot of this is in the delivery. Were I to say, "The Japs produce some good electrical goods", the use may be unfortunate but, were I to refer to a person of indeterminate oriental origin as, "A stupid Jap", then that would be crossing a line.

Vardy must realise that he is now a Premier League footballer and, as such, earns a healthy salary but, also has extra responsibilities. Particularly in the light of events during the summer, Leicester are going to be targeted by, what I shall loosely refer to as journalists, and I would have hoped that everyone at the club would have been reminded of their position as ambassadors of the club. I would not like this to end with dismissal, as per our youth trio but, equally some punishment is required; possibly a fine and extra unpaid community work.
