That's just stupid. All I am saying is a strikers job is to score and goals and he is a striker.

But is he a striker? Surely he would be scoring more goals if he was a striker. He must therefore be something else.

Yes he is a striker. Why would he? I don't get what you mean, don't you think Howard is a striker then?

No. He is a puller-awayer and space-maker.

There is no such position. So you are saying we play Howard up front not to score?

There was no such position as striker 30 or 40 years ago. What I'm saying is that there is a lot more to Howard's game than scoring and it doesn't matter as long as his presence helps others to score. I'm surprised you haven't noticed.

It doesn't say on his contract that he is a 'striker'.
He is a forward player and without his forward play we wouldn't have the goals that we have gotten so far.

What else does it say on his contract ? I really want to know.

I didn't go today, but I've notice Oakley has been poor the past 2 or 3 games, I'm a big fan of the player but I'm starting to doubt whether he can cut it at this level, his passing has been poor recently.

I think him not being in the centre of midfield alongside Wellens didn't help. They've got a good understanding there so I'm unsure why NP wants to feck around with that and move one or the other out wide to accomodate King, which weakens our centre midfield imo(he doesn't fecking tackle! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH) In fact, why the feck move either of them outwide instead of putting a winger there? ffs........

First half I thought we played well, and deserved to go in leading. Second half....well defence was utter pants for all three goals and they looked shaky before Wellens went off, trouble is, once he went off the midfield got swamped time and again putting the nervous central defence under pressure which Watford took full advantage of.

Pleased we managed to somehow get a point when it looked like we had thrown the game away, but very annoyed that being 2-0 up and looking very comfortable, yet again performing for only half a game and almost spoiling the good work done to be 2-0 up.

And I'd still rather have a half-fit Tunchev in defence than Brown, no offence to him!

do you think that NP is trying to find the best way to accommodate Gallagher?

Yes. but playing two players out of position to accomodate them or so he can play someone else in as well isn't the answer.

If he doesn't want to play with proper wingers then go 4-3-3. Tuck Gallagher in behind the front two so he can go out wide if he has to, play Adams in the midfield with Wellens and Oakley.

Not that Adams would start, if he did that it would King.

It was my fault. I listened to all of the first half and the opening moments of the second. When I arrived at my parents we were 0-2. I left to find we were 3-2 but almost immediately we equalised. I promise to listen to the whole game next time. Sorry.

LOL some of you really will argue anything !

I agree with Harbro, a strikers job is to score goals, unfortunately iv come to terms with the fact that it wont happen for Howard at this level, but yet we wouldnt be the same team without him.

No it is not! It is to ensure the team score more goals than they do!

Rooney does not have to score goals if he makes the opportunities for others to do so. Ferguson is not going to get rid of him if he is not top scorer, if the team keep winning because of what he does in creating chances for others!

"Howard is as important to us as Fryatt this season."
Now you are talking sense.

Well surely it's the job of every single player on the pitch to make sure that their team scores more and concedes less than their opponents?

At the end of the day the team relies on its strikers to deliver the end product and put the ball in the back of the net. Defenders and midfielders chip in, and on rare occasions (with players like Ronaldo, Messi) they provide more goals than the strikers, but it is a striker's primary objective to provide the majority of goals for the team and to suggest otherwise is daft - you will never find teams queuing up to sign a striker who doesn't score goals because scoring is what the manager and fans expect of them.

There is no doubt that Steve Howard does an important job as a target man for Leicester, he holds the ball up well and provides flick ons that create chances, much like Heskey does for England, but sooner or later he is going to need to start chipping in with goals. People on this board get on Fryatt's back when he misses a couple of good chances, but Steve Howard is regularly missing good chances every game and is yet to hit the back of the net - if it was Fryatt doing this he would be absolutely slated on this board (in fact he still is a lot of the time by some, despite being second top scorer in the league).

I'm an appreciator of Steve Howard and what he adds to the team, but we need him to start scoring or be replaced with someone who can score - if it wasn't for Fryatt's good form, where would our goals be coming from? N'Guessan's scored a couple, Waghorn got a lucky goal and Adams scored in the cup I think.

If Fryatt's form starts to wane and Howard continues to miss chances, I'd try experimenting with Howard/Gallagher & Fryatt/Gallagher because there is no way we can rely on the goals of one player for the entire season.

Rooney does not have to score goals if he makes the opportunities for others to do so. Ferguson is not going to get rid of him if he is not top scorer, if the team keep winning because of what he does in creating chances for others!

That's a pretty poor example because Rooney has and does consistently score goals as well as providing them. Howard has scored none this season, even with plenty of opportunity.

Watford didn't really play us of the park in the second half we just seemed to sit back and not go for it as much, and as a result we were on the back foot and they then seem to score every chance they had. The problem for me is Neilson, we desperately need a someone else to play there imo to give some competition, as he was at fault for the first goal and also the other two goals came from his side.

This McGivern lad...is that where he plays? If so why not try him.

Saying that I never know what Morrison does to deserve getting dropped from the team as often as he does. Yes he's not a full back, but at the start of the season he was doing a decent enough job imo.
