I'm worried. Very worried. Wasn't epecting a point today but have you seen the schedule? Ipswich away on Wednesday has nil points written all over it. I can see us nicking as point off Hull but not wolves.

Looking a bit grim:(

No points at Ipswich on Wednesday is an absolute certainty. The game is on Tuesday.

You are right BB - but I just don't think that there are many good players around who would take that longer term judgement.

I think Holloway needs to tell those lads that it is going to be down to them. Milan hasn't helped by setting ludicrous targets re. promotion this season. We need to realise where we are and why we are there.

Sadly, I think we fans need to also accept this - know that the squad is crap - but make the best of it and give all the support we can to try and ensure that a very bad situation doesn't become a catastrophe.

Then - hopefully another new start for next season.

Forget what he said - perhaps in reality he's taking a longer-term view and trying to ensure that we don''t get promoted in this or either of the next two seasons. That way he gets the club for a song.

Incidentally, no one bothers to point out that Stearman was constantly exposed as Chambers can't defend and was always out of position or ball watching. Chambers didn't get into the game but it was his first start against the best team in the division and his lack of product wasn't down to any lack of effort.

Mattock and Stearman were brutally exposed - but by the system rather than the players in front of them

It was patently obvious after ten minutes, but we failed to do anything about it until a full hour had gone by

Piss poor

I'd say the system and the players in front of them. I actually thought both full backs did ok, especially 2nd half, but there's no excuse for Stearman's mistake for the 1st goal.

If the players we have aren't good enough then I don't see what IH can do. I can play tennis against my mates, but the best motivator in the world couldn't get me to beat a professional.
But we're not talking about Beginner v Professional, we're talking about Professional v Professional. They should be competing at the same level, not giving in.

As has been said many times this season, in particular on this forum "nobody in this league is unbeatable". Well it seems to me now that this is no longer the case because people are desperate to find excuses for Ian Holloway.

Fact is, most teams that come to the Walkers are shite, we are just shiter.

WBA were pretty good to be fair, they passed it as well as I've seen outside the Prem.

You could argue thats because we didn't get near enough to stop them, but they had 5 outstanding players going forwards yesterday, thats what £3million + gets you with Brunt, Greening, Koren, Gera and Teixeira.

Agreed, but why did they only beat us 2-1?, if they were so good, why weren't we slaughtered?

We have all seen each and every one of our players have good games, we have seen in glimpses what they are capable of (most of them), I for one am certain these players aren't as bad as their performances would show.

When they are motivated, they raise their game, we have seen it. We see moments in almost every game where we think "hold on a minute, where did that come from" and then they die off.

So for me, it's something outside of the players ability that is holding us back. I personally believe that with the right Manager to motivate these players and give them some good reason to play out of their skins in every game, they will.

No motivation?, man management?, wrong tactics?, wrong team selection?, lack of opposition knowledge? I don't know. But for me, it all points to the bad management of the club/squad/team.

A good manager would be able to work with most sets of players (other than trouble players) and get the best out of them, they wouldn't babble on about the transfer window. I would like anybody to hold their hand on their hearts and swear blind what we have seen this season is the best these players have got to offer.

Fans were moaning about Megson criticising the players, but nobody has moaned when Holloway has said he needs to transfer window to turn things around, it's the same bloody thing for pity's sake.

These players are better than they are playing, yes it's their fault, but so is it the Management teams fault. Nobody is above blame, not even God Holloway

I find myself in agreement. :icon_sad:

Id love to see this amazing manager who can motivate this pile of shit into a good side.

If there was such a thing he would be no where near us, it seems what your looking for is a miracle. Motivation counts for so much yes, but ive seen enough out of these players to know they are not good enough.

Are you telling me that not one of the 7 managers we have had recently was capable of motivating these players? If so i think it's more down to the players not giving a flying feck.

If a proven motivator like Holloway can't get these work shy feckers performing then i don't want them at the club.

Personally i think it's a good thing that the fans have finally got a manager who they want to give the time to, someone they can make a few excuses for. Would you prefer it if we hounded this manager out of the club like we supposadly did the last (pure bollocks) after a few games.

Every new manager wants to make his mark with his new side, stamp his own authority on things, and quite frankly im bloody glad he's going to because without it nothing will change, come the end of the season we will be about where we are now and have no chance for progression next year.

Owen Coyle has done it with Burnley - a squad that is not as good as ours

Sadly we were not clever enough to appoint someone with his quality

Over the few months I have been on this forum I have realised that I am guilty of being a Blue Mongie. So I would like to put the Blue Mongie position on Ian Holloway. Yes I like Ian Holloway. I thought Gary Megson was dreary and that there was something unpleasant about Martin Allen. I think Holloway is cheerful and funny. That does not mean he will be a good manager. We will know by this time next year whether he is a good manager. I liked the ideas that he pushes in his book. I think he deserves the time to try and put those ideas into practice.

Sorry to disappoint you DG, but you've just distanced yourself from Blue Mongiedom by saying that IH may not possibly be a good manager. A Blue Mongie would have said:

"Ollis is da bomb coz he makez uz laff and all sortz, hez well ace and the bezzy mngr in the world"

Over what period has he done this?

Burnley have been consistently better than us for years now, and i beg to differ on the quality of the squad.

Thought our only good player was Kenton yesterday.

I don't understand why Mattock's playing at left back; his always out of position and out muscled, for me he is a left winger, as proven when Wortho played him there!

At least Mattock and Kenton looked as if they actually cared yesterday. Unlike some others.

We are in a relegation battle and have a poor squad.

Let's get some balance though - we could have just as easy won yesterday than lost. The Baggies had more quality and passed the ball better and with speed, but we created the better chances. Kis missed a sitter and forced a brilliant save from Steele. Not heard much about the penalty that wasn't when a good ball from Hume (one of the few things he did well) put Cort through and he appeared to be felled (I was at the other end so would like to know what people in the Kop felt).

As usual people pick on a couple of old favourites. I think Cort had an OK game. He is not mobile, but he won a few headers (but nobody was gambling on running on for them) and battled hard and laid off the ball pretty accurately. He alos had a good shot blocked. Stearman also was often much better going forward and defended well at times (best I have seen him play for a while). he was a bit like a curates egg and had some poor parts to his game and was partly reposnisble for their 1st goal.

Hayes caused them problems when he came on, Kenton put in the effort (but does not have the talent) and the midfield was absolutely woeful - they couldn't string a couple of passes together.

Despite all of the above we were never out of the game and could have won it (although it would have been undeserved). We have to hope we can scramble a few points before January and Ollie can weave some magic in the transfer window - but all is not lost just yet.

I thought Mattock was good yesterday, especially when Hayes came on and played in front of him.

First half, his flank was obviously targetted and he coped OK without anyone in front of him cutting out attacks. Second half, with Hayes in front, I thought he looked class. Always looking around and deciding who to track, and really looking to provide an option going forward... first time at the Walkers I've seen why he's been picked for the U21s.

I thought he was lightweight in the first half and Gera made mince meat of him. He did improve dramatically during the second half and played well with Hayes, even getting forward to some positive effect.

Contradictory GF, Kenton played in midfield

Agree Dour, Mattock and Hayes linked up well and caused problems going forward.
