Today went much as I had expected. They were superior to us and got the result they deserved. I had the upmost respect for Ollie today. He is trying to get every ounce he can out of what he's got.
When will the inquest begin about the shambolic recruitment policy last summer? I think we can safely say it was the most incompetant piece of building up a squad in history. It makes Twatlors decisions in the transfer market seem smart. MM has to take the lions share of the blame for signing or sanctioning the addition of apparently random names.
Looking ahead to January, where are we? Who can we rely on to be good enough? My team of players who are up to task are as follows: Keeper = Fulop; Defenders = McAuley; Midfielders = None; Forwards = Campbell (and possibly John if he stays)
I think we're desperately poor in all departments. We have potential in places but none of the kids look ready for the battle to me. The likes of Mattock, Sheehan, Stearman, Wesolowski, Hayes, Sappleton, Odihambo, King, Chambers, Porter all have some potential. However, we need strong and experienced players right now. I think relying on any more than one or two of these in a team right now is asking too much. We're in a scrap and need more experience.
We are being failed despicably by fraudulent senior players like Kisnorbo, Clemence and Hume. We are also saddled with so many inferior players it is scary: Neilson, Henderson, Douglas, Kishishev, Cort, Newton, Fryatt, Kaebi, Maybury, De Vries, Hammond, N'Gotty, Chambers, Hellings, Kenton (despite his good performance today).
Out of 32 players here, only 3 or 4 seem good enough to me and 2 of those are only here on loan. Therein lies a tragic mess. I feel that Ollie is the right man to make something of this mess and he has the capability to get some of the inferior/frauds to improve. I also trust him to sign good players in January.
The best we can now hope for is mid table promise come May and a mighty big clearout. In essence, we are witnessing yet another year of waste.
