my brother-in-laws son has just got a job as a postman he's 16 and get £7.25

and thats training rate too gose upto £8.00 an hour after training at 16 and they want more money :icon_evil

I don't think they are striking about money/pay

I thought the main issue was the cutting back on the numbers of staff to help the Royal Mail try to curb the money it is haemorrhaging left right and centre?

I am mistaken then,I thought it was over modernisation etc:102:

Also about cutting pay and closing down the pension scheme that has been in existence for donkey's years (replacing it with one that will give a retired postie the ability to afford about two baked beans and three sheets of toilet paper each week)

Quoting from the "Royal Mail Strike Q&A" in last Thursday's edition of The Times:

Why is it happening?

Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union are at odds over pay and pensions. Royal Mail has offered a 2.5 per cent one-year pay increase. The CWU wants to bring postal workers’ pay into line with the national average wage of £395 a week within five years — a rise of 27 per cent. Royal Mail also wants to end the final-salary pension scheme for all employees.

**** all, thanks to the ****ing ****s at Royal Mail!!!!!! :098: :098: :098: :098: :098:

If you want a better paid job, go and get yourself a better paid job - stop the bloody whinging!

But if they did that who would deliver your mail?

Why are you so against postal workers having a decent pay deal?

It's obviously about Pay and Pensions - but don't lose sight of the fact it also about protecting Royal Mail services from Adam Crozier and his modernisation plans

Against, for example, the plans to have a single service delivery that will happen late in the afternoon, rather than two deliveries (one in the morning and one in the afternoon)

There has been only a single delivery for several years now. There are no plans at all to make this single delivery happen in the afternoon.

Ours turns up when he wants/can.

I support them - mainly because the Post Office is becoming greedy. Like closing down the Bishop Street PO and putting it in WH Smiths.

Doing the same thing in Fort William

My post generally gets delivered to the entirely wrong block of flats down the road... god knows how they manage it, but they do.

There are no plans to cut any rates of pay. The fact that the Royal Mail is seeking to cut out anarchic and outdated working practices which lead to excessive overtime working is another matter and IMHO something they should be congratulated for.

FFS Hazz - the Royal Mail and the Post Office have been completely separate organisations for years.
