But if they did that who would deliver your mail?

New postal workers, currently unemployed, grateful to have a job (which has pretty decent pay to be fair).

Why are you so against postal workers having a decent pay deal?

They get paid enough! It's not like they're curing cancer or owt is it? The bastards don't realise that they screwing up everyone else to suit themselves. Sooner or later, people will stop using Royal Mail, and these arseholes on strike will be out of a job completely and it will be their own fault.

I thought that other companies could now set up to deliver/collect mail?

Oh aye and Private Companies are so good at delivering your parcels aren't they ? I get stocked delivered from Sussex by Royal Mail and its usually done the next day or day after.Other stock from St.Andrews by Carrier/Courier takes at least a weeek IF you get it at all.

They could, but i can't see it working, you would have to choose which companies stamps to buy, and any new company would probably be paying someone to deliver 2 letters, because they won't get the volume ahead of the established royal mail.

If they were priced more competitively I would guess they'd get the business ahead of the Royal Mail, especially with what is happening now

Bizarre.
No offence, but it's a very simplistic world that you live in, it must be nice.

I think if this happened you would soon notice what a decent job the Royal Mail do but I only speak from personal experience.:102:

I'm sure we would Virgin Mail by now if there was any chance of it working.

The problem comes with smaller businesses such as ours. These companies cannot compete on mail prices if you have anything less than 20-30 pieces of mail per day.

Other people - some of them probably from eastern Europe, in a similar fashion to the way that they have moved into other employments where workers have over-priced themselves.

Many would say that a 2.5% rise is a decent deal - many will be getting less.

The CWU are asking for the postal workers to be brought up to the national average wage. When will people realise that somebody has to be paid below the average for such an average even to exist?

Do away with money, its the root of all evil. We should all work for the greater good of mankind.

But that would cost millions to hire & train new employees.

Many will also be getting a lot more than 2.5%.
Personally, I don't think that postal workers getting a pay deal closer to the national average is asking too much.
Workers don't take a decision to use industrial action lightly, they aren't just greedy, Bolshy ****ers who are trying to make everybody else's life more miserable.

True, the competing companies are simply cream-skimming. They will only handle mail in volume and in standard pre-paid formats. All they then do is sort it and dump it in the Royal mail offices for delivery. They are not interested in setting up & emptying post boxes, training up people to do door to door deliveries, running dead-letter offices etc.

Quite and to be fair the Royal Mails issues don't really revolve around sorting, it's the actual deliveries that are the issue.

Many industries seem happy to have paid such costs when faced with difficulties in recruiting.

No, they are pushed into it by unions who seem to be ignoring the best intests of their members.

The same members that voted overwhelmingly for the action back in june/july?

You don't happen to be a postal worker do you Macky?

There is a saying that turkeys don't vote for Christmas. It's not always true.
